A few years ago Ted Leroy Trucking tried putting highway trucks to work hauling off-highway loads. The recipe was a tridrive Western Star & tridem pole trailer, 10' bunks on each, then load em up to the sky. Reports were it was hard on equipment: truck had 10 years of wear in 5 years of service (or less). But it was said it was cheaper to use up a highway truck than keep up the fat trucks.
88 kw
Owleater - I see that photo of a 1988 KW was taken in a burned area from the dead brush and char on on the top log. Can you pass along where they were logging when that photo was taken? My dad logged in N. Calif for a number of years, down the Klamath, Scott Valley, Tenant and McCloud area.
Are there any more pictures of the Ted Leroy Western Stars like the one shown here on page 3 of this thread?
I'm curious about the specs on these trucks. I would like to know what kind of rear suspension they had, like all air ride or air ride/walking beam? Wheel base? I would say it has a Pro-Fab tridem log trailer since I think they owned that company.
These would make a neat 1/25th scale model. Any help would be great.
