I was looking at moving a crawler from California to Iowa. I was wondering what the maximum unescorted width would be. Is 12' the maximum? Thanks in advance.

I think in kansas , two lanes roads require front and rear escorts for over 12 foot

four lanes over 14 feet.

and a trailer that is longer than 60 feet.

under that it's a rear escort only, but you do see a few wide loads without escorts. maybe just bootlegging it

most everything coming thru here has 2 escorts,

one giant monster thing came thru the other day had 3 escorts, plus a pusher truck hooked to the back. It must have been 18 feet wide, because there was no way to pass it

Even though Caltrans always seems to route you well out of what you and I might consider to be the easiest or closest route, don't even think about going anywhere other than where they tell you to go. Because if you get caught or even worse, get in some kind of accident, your life as you know it has just come to an end. This knucklehead had every opportunity to stop and if he had had an ounce of working brain in his skull, he would have not ended up here. What happened? He missed his turn @ Ave.52 and just kept on hammering it. This happened about 5 miles from my house.

Thats a company rig so the owners better have a hell of a bond. As for the driver, after that stunt the only ting he'll be able to drive is a nail.

I just hope there was not anyone working on the bridge deck when that happened. Looks like he made quite a mess of things.

Clensing what did you buy in california? You'll need to check with each state to see what the widths are, a truckers atlas might have it in, but you'll also need to know if you can get a permit in each state or do you run apportioned plates? Are you planning on taking an escort vehicle along with you empty to california? Also check to see what requirements california has for your semi, they might not let you in at all, and make sure you have all the oil leaks fixed if you go and your engine had better be spotless as well, nothing leaking anywhere and that includes what your hauling too and be prepared to be inspected, so have all the paperwork you need on hand and up to date, or are you planning on having someone else haul it back? If your doing it yourself, check to see what each state needs for equipment on hand, if your going over the rockies, you'll need tire chains. Where in california?
