i know a pickup isn't a truck. i am being lazy and don't want to do a bunch of research. i am hoping someone will just tell me the answers to my questions.

I am talking about brand new current model year pickups.

is there a difference between an f350 cab a chassis and taking the box of a regular pickup if i want to put on a flat bed?

is there a different transmission with a gas and diesel in the F350?

yes and yes

The cab and chassis will have flat frame rails.

The trans gear ratios are different and the bell housing will not interchange.

What will you be doing with the truck? It's purpose will define it's specifications.

I dont think a Knaphide or Stahl (factory built) flat bed will just mount up on the pickup truck rails. They are built to spec with the cab chassis type truck. As said above the frame rails are flat and wider. Also they are longer, Im thinking about 11" longer. They build pickup truck flatbeds but they are more expensive as i understand.
Also, the capacity is greater on the cab chassis, i think.
