Hi All
I'm looking for some advice on setting up a concrete recycling plant , I realise i will require a crusher that will handle reinforced concrete , a reasonable sized loader and probably a 20 + ton excavator . If anyone has some pictures of any setups or just advice i'd be really happy to hear it

justridinby; Hi mate yes i have a concrete recycling set up Komatsu JG 380 BR 2005 model does a great job, 30 ton excavator and IT28G loader plus weighbridge, mate the only advice i can give is (in my area) i charge $18/Ton over the w/bridge to bring it in, i sell it for $15/ton (35mm minus) all sounds hollwood if you can educate people to recycle, you need at the rate i charge in/out 6000 ton/ year to break even. some will say more some will say less. If you want to yak about this just pm or call cheers Leroy

You actually charge people to dump their concrete for recycling? I have only just recently bought a 10cm2 dump truck to deliver my own excess concrete to a recycling plant that is local to me. The truck paid for itself in under 6 months. I have personally dumped over 800t in well under a year. Waste for the last 10yrs that i've been involved in the business has been removed by either by subbing in tipping semi's or using changeover bins.

The plant I dump at is a very large one and besides their crushing equipment they use 60t loaders and from the looks of it a 20t excavator with a jackhammer and a 30t ex with crushing jaws. 95% of the material I have supplied has to be broken with the hammer. From what I have observed they run very little reinforced concrete through their crushers. The vast majority is removed with the crushing jaws on the ex. The loaders really only feed clean material to the crushers. The hundreds of tonnes of reo that gets recycled im sure pays for a lot of beer.

I think a lot of places charge to dump there concrete or asphalt. Its $10.00 a tandem load here in Calgary.

Hi Dinale Precast
Most of the larger operations i've looked at charge tipping fee's ,I guess it depends of on the business their running and if they have a use for the final product themselves.Without a tipping charge it's hard to see how how anyone could make any money proccessing and selling the end product at a saleable price especially when the guys round here are charging out a crushing plant at $9.00 a tonne , not much of a profit margin when i can buy road base for $15.00 a tonne

Around here the places let you dump for free as long as it is not full of dirt. We have a plant set up and feed it with a JD892 hoe. We use a loader to load truck and push up the piles as needed. When it is to big for the crusher we have a hoe with a buster to size it. This is how most of the outfits around here do it. seems to be the new thing. Use to be not may who did it, now there are 5 or 6 companies who do it.

pay to dump here. single axle and smaller by the load. tandem and larger by the ton. So we get double charged for material here. More material coming in then going so some places have stopped taking concrete and asphalt.

seems like leroy got you covered for info

Most places around here have also had the problem of more coming in than going out. I would consider raising prices on allowing people to dump after you get a stockpile of material processed. Around Seattle, most of the recyclers have a huge pile of unprocessed concrete that makes the county and city nervous about cleaning up if they go bankrupt.

In California it is a thriving business! It may take a while to catch on but in the end you should do well. The crushed concrete is made into road base here! The set up here is a loader to feed and move material. A excavator with a breaker on it. Some companies use cheap labor with torches to cut the steel. They haul it off for scrap. Most of the companies want the concrete sized (2 feet or smaller). And they charge a surcharge for the steel or oversized loads. Most of these guys end up getting more money from the recyceled products they sell than from dump fees. Good luck!

It seems a moving trend with new building codes coming in all over the world as far as recycled products are concerned . Some major projects in my area are calling for building rubble to be processed onsite and reused where ever possible , at this stage it looks like a great opportunity ! .
