On a Dash 5 Hitachi, what can cause the controller to loose its learning? Have a machine that would not shut off with the key switch. Checked it out and found several issues that required the main wiring harness to be replaced. After doing this it took 3 tries to get the learning process to work. The machine was left in the yard for a few days and worked good. It was then hauled about 2 hours away and started having issues soon after. When they start it in the morning it will run a few seconds and shut off. This happens a few times and then it usually runs ok, occasionally they have no throttle control for some time. There are no codes set, but the Dr EX showed the engine learning as "undone". I tried several times to redo the learning procedure and it now shows as "aborted". Running for 5 seconds and then stopping is a symptom of a bad learning switch but I find it hard to believe that would not be a continual problem. When I was there it ran great, started and stopped it approx. 20 times with no issue. The EC sensor voltage and the throttle dial voltage also both check good on the Dr EX. I'm a little stumped on this one.

Having similar problems with an EX 200-5, it worked fine for 2 years by reseting the throttle every time before starting by turning on ignition, turn throttle dial to full, wait for the throttle motor to stop buzzing, turn dial back to idle, wait for the motor to stop buzzing again, repeat all this again and then start the engine.Mine also sometimes worked better with one of the throttle motor plugs unpluged. Alas a month ago I installed a hand throttle and cabel. Bye bye electronics.

I realize this thread is old but maybe it will help someone, had the same issues as everyone else, pulled the stepping motor apart and found the rubber/plastic gear on the ec sensor had stripped off the shaft, replaced ec motor with new sensor included did the engine learning and problem solved.

Normally the throttle motor position sensor(EC sensor) will throw up a 01 fault on dr ex when its faulty. Is the throttle cable tight? Does the ball joints at the end have excessive amounts of play in them? Are you trying to perform engine learning with dr ex plugged into the diagnostic port? You have to unplug it, do engine learning then plug it back in to make sure its done

Edit, just noticed how old this thread is :D
