Another vote for the KW T800, although I would not turn my nose up at a Pete. Compare the curb weight between the KW and Pete, and the turning radius. They should be close, but some of the competition, especially Mack, falls short in those areas.

Also, if weight is a factor, have a look at the KW T300, or whatever they call it now, and the Pete counterpart. If you will be an owner-operator, either one should hold up well for you. You should be able to easily pick up another thousand pounds of payload.

As for the body, I would be really sure as to what type of dump truck work you want to do. An aluminum body is great for crushed rock, but for hauling stumps and debris, for example, they won't last a good farting spell.

Before you go any further, I would take a good look at the types of dump truck available in your area, what it pays, and how many others will be competing for the work. If you go into this with the wrong truck and body specs, it could cost you dearly. Also, become very familiar with your state's weight laws, and how drop axles could help you, or hurt you.

Sounds like a good spec for a tandem shadow, if you have the work for it more power to you since that truck will probably be around 165000 on the road. The Allison is an awesome choice. Before you pull the trigger though I would atleast give KW a shot you might be surprised, I know they don't take well to being out priced by Petes.

i am try to still decided between a 6 and a 10. The mechine that the 6 will tow is a 30000lbs trailer i know the 10 will tow it but will a 6 wheel dump truck

The six would pull 30k but it would be much more comfortable with the 10 wheeler and the 10 also gives you the higher capacity if you need it.

EVERY truck I have worked around with air ride has had problems. From blowing a bag, to leaning badly. I know a guy that pulled out to pass in his brand new Pete with air ride. The truck leaned over, and he had to fight it to get back to the right lane. He pulled the dump box off, and put on a fifth wheel. I've seen them with loose loads (wet muck) take a corner and look like they were going to fall over. If they are loaded a little heavy on one side they go down the road with that 'gangsta lean'. Just lower the air seat all the way, rest your arm on the door, and put your hat on sideways. Maybe you drive around empty a lot 'down there'. We are often hauling grubbing out (that's where the high lift and vibrator come in handy) and gravel back in. Loaded both ways. We are not hauling down a freeway either. Rural roads, many of them gravel Borough roads. The asphalt roads are rutted badly from 6 months every years of studded tire abuse. Plus we can gross higher here than many places in the lower 48. With my floats on the steer axle, 246" wheel base, and no lift axle, I gross 55,000.

i have gone with a 6 wheel dump truck and i tring to fugure out the rite side hight and tail gate hight to hold 10 tons of rock and tap rock or mud with out being overly big

i have the truck spec with a 30in side with a 8in board and a 42in tail gate

Willis, I have a 55K Betterbuilt tag trailer. It has two 22.5K axles although I am limited to 20K per axle plus any tongue weight. I have pulled it with a tri-axle and a tandem hauling a 953 D6n and 315, the tri was better just because you could lower the lift axle to smooth the ride out and add an extra set of brakes.

Several manufacturers make them. There are tri-axle 60K tags as well.

You may have already stated but what kind of work do you guys do that a single axle will not only foot the bill but make a profit at that price?

We spend about 6000- 10000 dollars a month on moving machines and having material delivered. dirt moved from on job to anther.

we own 3 excavators 3 bobcat loaders and 2 small dump trucks

we also trying to become more legal

the truck has a two stage jake brake and air and electric brakes to the back of the truck
