Thought I'd share some pic's of some things we had happening in one of my last jobs, we had got a job on an offshore island with very strict quarintine standards, basically you could not have ANY dirt, grease, oil, seed or insect matter on any plant and equipment (or tooling) which went into the island

In the end we were trading older gear in to buy new equipment rather than clean them is the costs were comparable

140M grader 3000hrs, strip, clean, assemble with handrails :thumbdown

some of the 20 odd new light vehicle's getting wrapped for the 1700km trip to port, once there cleaned, their wrapped, sealed, fumigated, vented, quarintine sealed, sent to port, unwrapped, driven onto the barge then set sail to an island off the NW coast of Australia

but, now.. my personal favorate, we had afew quiet days so i suggested i upgrade out old batter cart/jump pack which has turned from a pretty basic unit into a absolute abortion of a setup to move and use, so i stripped and rebuilt it wish i took some before pic's cause i was pretty happy with the finshed product :)

new dash arrangement, CAT jumper plug for 12V & 24V gauges for each voltage, isolator, pnematic tyre upgrade with improved balance point of easy mobilisation, full repaint in CAT yellow, cable for CAT to CAT and CAT to battery, lifting point and removeable handle for easy stowage on the back of the ute :D

rare ss, I know a chap in Australia that buys old CAT's from the U.S., he spends weeks cleaning them fit to travel home to his Farm, he know's
all about the tuck em up costings of not doing an A1 job of polishing the old bangers clean, U.S. to U.K. is no problem machinery can be shipped here without any fancy cleaning, as we have more Bug's and pestilence than it would seem any other rock on the Earth.

the whole cleaning process is for a gas plant being built by chevron/shell on an island about 170kms off the NW coast of Australia Gorgan Gas Project, click here to view
theres some info about the project and even some videos outlining all the quarrentine standards and of the job itself, its alot more strict than items which come into Australia via import
the Island iself is a class A nature reserve

Thats cool! How do they get them off of the low bed without disturbing the wrapping?

they unwrap them at the barge, then inspect brefore loading onto the barge for the Island, then inspected again before being allowed to be unloaded.. we've had things sent back to the mainland after going through all the foremetioned processes

Do you work for Ertech? I was scrolling seek and found an ad looking for an apprentice. Any chance they are looking for a mechanic? I just got my visa and am planning on coming out to Perh in the next month or so.
