Hi everyone, i have just bought a bobcat 442 and it has some the flat face grease fittings for the track tension, problem is i don`t have the grease adapter and i want to install a regular nipple. Has anyone done this? Can i just unscrew the one thats in there and rig up my own?

Thanks

sorry to give you the news. but you will need more than just a grease fitting to work on a 442.
i wish you the best of luck with that machine, having owned one and gotten rid of it i do speak with some experience on the matter

Hi again, i got it figured, i took the flat face, or button fitting out and then took it apart removed the guts then bored and tapped the end to take a 1/8 npt grease fitting. Seems to work fine took grease and if it works over time i will do the other one too.

442's

originally designed by sheaff, out of germany. they made the first couple of years worth for bobcat. as bobcat did no have a machine to fit that weight class. then terex bought sheaff. i may be mistaken, bought that is the story i was told.

I agree CD, pretty certain it's a German built machine, has many Italian hydraulic components on it as well.

442's

i am not saying they are a bad machine. i just had problems with mine and choose to get rid of it and buy another 435. for twice the money it does not do twice te work. plus at the time i had a 135. now all i run are 12,000 lb class and 210's . it is just what fits my operation and liking.
trying to get parts was tough and it was burning a ton of oil. regards.

i do not want to threadjack or belittle a 442. just did not work out

Well I am now having more problems with the 442, It took me 3 months to get a manual and a few other things out of the dealer i bought it from so i am not too interested in dealing with them. The problem i am having right now is the right side track is slower and has less power. It moves over about a foot that direction in 50 feet of flat road.
The machine in in decent overall shape and has 3380hr on it, i have checked the control travel and it is the same from side to side. I do have the shop manual for the machine but it seems to be incompeat..... any ideas were the best place to start would be?

Someone told me that the speed can be adjusted. Mine broke the lower drive shaft or sun gear last week. Well bobcat has discontinued the gear. I've been looking for a replacement without having to buy a new final drive. Great machine other than that though. And for what it's worth it can pick about as much as my linkbelt 2650.
