Interesting to see you guys talking Wabco's, I have a good customer with a 222g I've done alot of work on. My shop in Indianapolis, In was a Wabco dealer at one time. I met a few guys that love these machines and working on them, even the electrics. I know the 222 has been a great machine for my customer and in dry weather she's hard to beat. It's funny I've ordered more than one part from Australia for it.

Leroy, I'll second that! NEVER HAS AND NEVER WILL!!!!
The infomation I have on contactor that are on the C-Pull 222 & D-Pull is that they have a Westinghouse Size 2 Type N-Lifeline contactor in them. I have some pictures of these two machines if I ever figure out how to post them.

I met a contractor in SE Wisconsin who ran Wabco's... W.H. Fuller (Wayne Fuller). He was a very interesting man. He wanted me to buy all of his iron and took me back in his shop. He had 3 running Wabco scrapers with elevators... I think they were 333's but not sure. I think he said they had 40 yard bowls? He also had tons of spare parts. He spoke very highly of the machines stating that he felt they out performed the Terex open bowl most people use around here. I don't know, I'm not a mass dirt guy. The machines were very impressive though. I know he was still using them on his own investment project in the area just a few years back. Wish I would have taken some pics.

Good pics Showpony I like your rails to roll the carrier out, pretty slick. I had one apart a couple of years ago, I enjoyed it. I like the side gears in the carrier that's a cool setup. Nice looking machine.

On the look out for the 333FT universal joint that drives the front Diff. Its a special cause it has a hole thru the centre. Does anyone know of any new ones or good second?

Hi Jim
We'll be a prouder when we get them all the same colour. The big one on the end is a 333ft. We like our 101fs they go against the saying "if it looks good it'll go good" but we've made a lot of money with 101fs.
The 222 with the wheell in front of it and the 101f with the primer cowl are not operational, we may wreck them out for parts.
Stan do you have a picture of your u joint?

Yair...Nueman dredging had a new 333FT on the Gold Coast in about 1973. Good while it was going, it would take a twelve inch cut in coffee rock but had a lot of issues with the drop box. I've often wondered where it ended up...I sort of got to like the beast.

I was breaking myself in as a heavy equipment mechanic on one of these 10 years ago for a farmer. I think it was 222, not sure. It had the handle bar and toggle switch steering. It had been through a winter flood in the Willamette valley. Completely under water and then sat for 2 years. We rebuilt the the 8v71 and replaced alot of wiring. The generator worked fine once I got some bugs worked out. I got to run it couple of times.
Really enjoyed that project. I beleive its still running.
I've always liked working on the Big Iron.

Hi stan
The 333 is going real slow, the CHCH quake has us flat out with trucks, digger and grader. 333 will have wait. Did you get a new u joint?

Yep, we had one spare that was in OK order and have another good one arriving on Monday. The 333FT is going good again although we have had some repairs lately. Front trans and rear motor, also had to replace turbos stolen from front engine. 333FT and 259FT are being shifted on Tuesday from Hawera to Palmerston so we will have for the first time 3 x 252FT, the 259 and 333 altogether plus 3 x 222Gs. We have about 100,000m3 to get out of a hole in a month and its wet clay that requires discing and breaking up. Hopefully we can get it complete before winter. We have had a really good run with the 222s but terible time for breakdowns with the twins. Funny cause usually its the other way round. ChCh sounds like it has created alot of work down there. I know lots of North Island Drainage contractors have headed south and demo contractors. Catch up later.
Cheers Stan

Hey Showpony, that 222G rebuild is really inspiring!

I am confidant I am doing a sensible thing in rebuilding scrapers which were the best in the field in their day, and still more than competitive since the latest machines are not better, just more complex electrically and a bit more user freindly in the cab - but it is good to see others acting the same way. I have to do a 222 diff strip sometime, I will copy your excellent roll out frame with thanks for the idea. Attached is a pic of my 222 front support frame - maybe overbuilt, but it is weird and vulnerable feeling lying under that front when the wheels are off!

Also, I had a bit of luck with a 353FT parts and an operation manual from an Aussie used book company in Melbourne - they are invaluable to me. Just need a service manual now, and I am all set for my rebuilds.

Slow progress on 2nd 353FT repower

I was crook from the start of December until the end of Feb, it is hard to make headway when being sick makes you broke, and unable even to keep non-income earning projects going. But I am back running scraper jobs, not able to drive much yet though, and getting a bit done now on the rear NTC 400. I am just cleaning up and checking out, and making things like fuel lines which were rusted out from being left on the beach for four years..

Thanks Jim, drop in any time. I finally got in touch with Brendan Lowe (see many earlier posts this thread), and hope to visit him before to long. It was great talking to him even for ten minutes, he said he still has quite a few machines at home, 333's among them.
