I'm looking at buying a 17 yard Reynolds pan. The guy wants 8k for it,it's older but in very good shape with a liner. Is this a good price? I have a 270hp tractor would it pull a pan this size?

What about tires?

wheel tractor with 270 HP probably won't get the job done. Pull my no. 80 Cat pans with D8H & K. That is 300 HP plus lots more weight than you have plus the tracks on the ground to pull it.

That sounds like a fair price to me and the weight of your tractor wont be that big of a deal if it is a direct mount scraper. I am not farmilar with renolds models but if it is a dolly wheel scraper you wont have the drawbar weight and you wont be able to fill it very full. If it is a carry all scraper and not an ejector model it may not unload wet sticky clay very well. New 17 yard scapers are around $70,000 so if it is opperational at all you cant go to wrong just keep in mind the tires on it will cost more than the scraper if you have to replace them with new. also keep in mind a direct mount scraper may put up to 40000 lbs on your tractor that is a lot of stress on axle bearings rear end houseings and the whole frame in general.

I have a st 310 steiger panther ( 310 HP ) and it will not handle my 17 yard dolly scraper at all. Reynolds just went out of business from what i hear and now you cant get parts for their scrapers. I know of several people that have ruined their farm tractors trying to pull big pans with them. You need a JD 9520 to pull that, they have special rear ends and heavy bearings to handle the stress.
just my 2 cents worth, good luck !!

older fords were blue steigers, middle are versitile, and currectly are cnh stuff. Prolly the best is the steigers. I'd take it easy on the tractor because while it will do it, it doesn't have anything extra. As for the $ of the pan, if the rubber is good, go for it.

That is a good price if its any kind of shape. You can buy any reynolds part from K D sales in AR. They are about half the price of genuine Reynolds. As far as pulling it with that size tractor you should be alright, but don't expect to heap it full. That should only be a 10' cut scraper. We used to pull a 14c with a CIH 7140 MFWD. Also, I defineately would run a frost tooth.

If that pan has 14.00-24 tires on it,your best bet is a 16 ply Firestone.Ran those on a bunch of Reynolds pans a customer had and almost no flats at all.The cheap off brand 14 ply tires another tire dealer had put on them were going flat all the time.We ended up swapping all of them(at least a dozen pans) out for the 16 ply and giving the customer casing credits for the cheapo tires.Never had a problem after that. And that's with only running 4 tires on the pans instead of all 6.
