-48F = -44 C

At a speed of 60mph/100kmh the wind chill figures out to be -120F/-85C

You would likely want to put the top up at that point. Also, leave the Harley at home.

I've never seen so much misinformation here before.ATF in fuel, not to use kero,MMO,and not to use any additive at all. WOW.First--ATF in fuel or fuel filters--It might have ''worked'' some in a 20 year old mechanical injectored old diesel because ''she smoked real good after I did it'' scenario probably happened.Probably also shortened the injectors life somewhat and maybe some other parts, but that's just conjecture.Second--#1 diesel is basically kerosene and that is what is blended [at least by me in the Northeast] with #2 diesel to call it [in part] ''Winter blend diesel''.I have a chart from Hess Oil that proves this with the percentages of each for the 4 months of Winter going by coldest ambient degree days.MMO? What is there to say except it's still a mystery why people dump it in a $40-50K or more truck or piece of excavating iron.Personally,40 years ago,I found Motor Honey worked the best in my '53 Studebaker to control the smoking.[funny face laughing]Lastly, let me answer that with this little tidbit---in the last week with our temps. a few times dropping to -15*,I ran across 2 guys who gelled up.Asked them WHY.Both said they didn't run any anti-gel in the tanks as they didn't expect such low temps.I run lubricity enhancer/anti-gel in every fill, year round.I can't remember honestly when the last time I gelled up---probably 30 years ago when I too got caught off guard.

Usually when it is that cold, you dont get much wind, However I have seen ALOT of -35 temps with heavy winds. Personally only seen about a -75f chill factor. I spent a couple winters hauling fuel, Did a few 8 week hitches, and as much as I would like to say "you get used to the cold" you DONT.. Fuel is a nessesity and even when everything else stops, fuel is still needed. Spent many of hours outside in it. Its a BRUTAL and HARSH environment and not for everybody. Many guys quit within the first few days. Others... Its in their blood and love it. Me, I did it for the money...
