Diesel Use

Can anyone tell me what the fuel usage is on a D7R ,D8R/T ,D9R/T in a ten hour Day (solid pushin) Cheers Leroy

The Reason i ask about diesel use because some say a D7R working hard will use as much as an D8R/T. (And what does a D9R use) havin never owned a D8R/T (yet) it does not sound right i would like to know of you guys if this is true. Cheers Leroy

Each one of them will burn a tank full. Now not knowing how big the tank is on each one I cant tell you how many gallons that is, as each machine has a different sized fuel tank.

G'day mate, i can't tell you anything about those specific machines but i operate a caterpillar D8H and she burns an easy 600L a day in heavy pushing.

Steady work with a D8N would deplete the tank in 8 hours, despite Cat's statements to the contrary. I had a welding shop in Grand Junction, Colorado modify several tanks for my project and a few more for other D8N's within the company. Supposedly, these machines were designed with a ten hour range in mind.

D8R models have a bigger tank from the factory, will go all day. Cat finally realizing the engineers were wrong and reports from the field correct. Early D9N's had the same problem with the exception that nearly everything on that model was too small.

Are you dozing uphill or downhill?

i dunno about a 7, 8, or 9, but i know a 6r/t will use 100 gallons if worked hard all day, i would imagine the bigger ones would use proportionally more probably like 115,130,145

We can get 12 hours out of a 7RII on a 126.54 gal tank It has the 3176 engine. If you hook it to a scraper it will be 10.5 to 11 hours on a tank.

I can put 140 gallons through my D8K pulling pan in a 9 hour day.

Thanks Guys for the info;In oz we buy diesel by the litres, We pay AUD $1.29 cents per litre; Greg D8K, 59.10 ltr/hr = $76.25 AUD per hour for 9hrs with D8K = 532 ltr in 9 hour day pulling a pan

SE-Ia Cowman ; D7RII, 43.71 ltr/hr = $56.39 AUD per hour = 480 ltr in 11 hour day pulling a pan This based on 3.8 litres to a U.S.Gallon, So Based on these numbers the 7RII uses $20 per hour less in fuel than a D8K, Does that sound right to you Guys, Leroy

I was thinking about this and another way to break down fuel consumpsion is in hp/hr
example A D7r is 240 hp fule burn on a scraper is 12 gal/hr 12/240=.05 gal/hp/hr
A D8K is 300 hp fuel burn is 15.5 gal/hr 15.5/300=.051 gal/hp/hr
A D6T is 200 hp fuel burn is 10 gal/hr 10/200 =.05 gal/ hp/hr
So it looks like it takes the same amount of fuel to make 1 hp/hr I dont know what the burn rate is on a D11 but I would like to know I asume it would be 45.75 gal/hr. But they only have a 388 gal tank so my formula must not be right all the time or they can only go 8 hrs on a tank.
If you figure $3.00/gal us a 8k burns $46/hr and a D7 burns $36/hr all figured in Us dollors and us gallons. I also have used the hp/hr formula to figure hourly rates for different sized machines $.70 to $.73 is the going rate in my area

Hell our fuel is $ 4.90 per gal and you guys pay only $3.00 per gal, And the USD and AUD are same price on world market give or take a cent each way crazy!!!!!!!!. Leroy

D6T 1hp= 100kgs
D7R 1hp= 114.5kgs
D8T 1hp= 124kgs
D9T 1hp= 116.8 kgs
D10T 1hp= 114.5 kgs
D11T 1hp= 123 kgs

Does that mean before you start work the D6T is best on fuel

D6R's = 101 gal fuel tank capacity
D6T's = 112 gal
D7R's = 126.5 gal
D8R's = 165 gal
D8T's = 170 gal.

We use D8R's for K/G'ing, and we average roughly 12-13 gal/hr.
