I am a little confused about what you are asking. Are you looking for opinions on virgin vs. recap? what application.

I agree with Jake, I have and do run caps. With that said on our detach lowboy 50 ton I don't run cold caps anymore (Cold caps aka band-aid caps) but we are running hot melt caps Acu Tread. We don't have a lot of long hauls just local within 50 miles and with the cold caps they would seem to come apart and do a lot of damage, plus we never seem to get close to the mileage as virgins or the hot melt. In my opinion the cold caps will not the the scrubbing of turning in the local environment that we are using them. I do like to run virgins as well we can get a good price on a good tire, a lot of the import cheap tires aren't very round and have vibration issues. When is comes to the hot melt we can send in our own good casing, and they true them up, and keep the heights the same.

The keep to any tire life is just as Jake said and that is air pressure, we run 105 psi and check them often, if you let tire run low builds up heat and can destroy the tire, and damage the casing. Below is the link for the Acu Tread process.

thanks for the good advice.

there seems to be a lot of Bandag recaps around. any experience with them?
