Looking for advice on heated mirrors for haul trucks

We are running a few Komatsu 325/456 haul trucks year around and would like to install heated mirrors. Problem is I can't find a large heated convex mirror. Anyone know of any other brands that may have them factory that could be retro fitted or a kit to convert what we have? I would even be willing to try to scratch something up myself with the right parts. The closest I've been able to come up with is transit bus mirrors which I'm not sure how they would take the abuse.

One of the light and mirror companies, (maybe trucklite, but I'm not sure), has heating elements that stick to the back of the glass.

I have not seen any 24volt heated mirrors before, if you do find some please post a link. ADTs are a pain to drive with perfectly clean mirrors, with dirty/wet mirrors they are down right dangerous for anyone around them.

John Deere ADT's have heated mirror option. Don't know the cost, but probably pretty high, but what price do you put on safety. Probably can get the mirror heads through parts Dept.

I was hoping you guys in WA, WI, Canada might already have this one figured out!
We are already running 24/12 volt converter boxes in them for the radio equipment perhaps I could tap into that if the load isn't to much. I'll keep searching for the elements.
I've run a few of the new "F" series Cat trucks and thought they had heated mirrors but it was summer and I really didn't pay attention....

Its an option on cat F model haul trucks and on the 740's. Call your cat dealer for a price.

volvo has heated mirrors on their haul trucks but you might be able to try equipment salvage yards and find something there.

drill a small hole in the back of your exisiting mirrors and slip a glow plug in there hooked up to a momentary switch.

Not sure if it's big enough for haul truck, but how 'bout an 8 x 11 24V heated convex mirror brynbaily. And, they're made in...LoL...Ohio! Bah ha ha

I may contact ACME this week, thanks ATCO. If they offer services I may be able to send out a pair and have them modify them or custom make one the same size.

The Mercedes school bus i used to travel in to high school had heated mirrors. I remember asking about them, and the driver said that they had a 24 halogen globe mounted inside. Wiring a potentiometer in series with the globe and you will be able to vary the brightness and hence the heat produced from the globe.

Mercedes Trucks have heated mirrors, they have a heater panel built into the mirror glass with a small thermo switch. When the temp drops below xx degs the thermoswitch switches on and powers up the heater. Works well and its 24v. Dont think you guys get Mercedes Commercials in the states?

Nope, no Mercedes here. If they are around they are very rare in my area. I have never seen one other then TV or Magazines.
I was raised with the mind set that Mercedes were always high end stuff (auto wise atleast); so when I hear your school bus was a Mercedes I don't even wanna discuss what I had to ride on! We were lucky have heat period, let alone heated mirrors :laugh

I remember the old bedford spare bus they had, Number 44 it was, my school was on top of a mountain, and getting up that hill with that bus was a slow process. The engine was sitting right next to the driver, was covered in a leather material

, never remember anything as loud as that bus

I thought the globe idea was a fairly easy to install, cheaper alternative. Was rather surprised coming from a mercedes bus, thought they would have had a far more complicated system.

All the HD465,605,785 that i've PDI'd over the last 3 years or so have had heated mirrors fitted. not sure if we as a dealer did it or they were ordered with them. I'll check the PDI files on monsay and see if they were genuine komatsu or aftermarket. Rhey look exactly like non heated mirrors.

Wonder if anything showed up? That would be awesome if it was a factory Komatsu part no. to order.

Hi, I was just wondering what you found out on the heated mirrors. We are currently doing a PDI on a HD465 and the customer would like heated mirrors as well. Any direction would be great.

hell beats that old Ford f-600 i had to ride in with a pringles can bolted to the back and some seats stuffed in it. I always get a kick how if you have a child in a car you have to have a car seat that is more advanced than a racing seat with a 5 point harness, but if you put 40 kids in one vehicle, they will be fine just rattling around.
