So we bought a new Cat this yr. with a rear mount screed. The electric heat takes 1 hr to heat up when its 70 outside. And the pumps cavatate after about 3 to 4 hrs of use. ( sounds like its running out of hydraulic fluid in the pumps when u do more than one function at a time). The steering is xtremely hard to turn.:beatsme

If it's still under warranty call CAT. If not, start by looking for a suction leak.

Cat cant find anything wrong with it anywhere. we did update our other AP1000 this winter with the new harness and screed heater elements.

They cant tell us why the "heating up" and "hot" lights flash all the time. They say its fine, but we know better. None of our others do this.

That's why I'm going to miss diesel burners when you can't get them anymore.

I know this thread is old. We had one of the first AP1000's to come out and it was doing stuff like that all the time. We had everbody from Arrow Equipment to actual Cat factory people look at it and they could never figure it out. Even went so far as to put a brand new engine in it at there cost. They finally cut us one heck of a trade deal on a new one.

As for the screed heaters, check that the elements are good and that the heating chambers are clean and free of all old asphalt and dirt etc.,and as far as the pump cavatation and steering problem, make sure the servo silinoid valves are adjusted and opened far enough to allow enough oil to pass into the hydralic motors, run pressure tests into and out of each motor, check hydralic oil temp and that its not to the boiling point,no air bubbles, and install adiquet oil cooler, also if the computers get to hot they tend to send bad signales,we have had a lot of problems with cat computers as they tend to control everthing. hope this helps////
