Gentlemen, What is everybody's opinion on the best grease to use on Heavy Equip.? Just bought a TLB and am looking for the best grease available . Have just used local hardware store stuff in the past but would like to use the best out there for this as I plan on keeping a long time. Thanks

Good grease doesn't make a machine last a long time, good maintnance does though. Why would you spend 10$ or more per tube. Grease quality is based on its viscosity, so the stickier it is the more its worth.

Unless your running a crusher, or something that has high speed bearings then you really don't need it. We don't even use "special" grease for our crusher bearings. 3 or 4$ per tube grease is fine as long as you grease it daily. Keep the pins wet on it, its so pointless to buy really expensive grease if you don't need it.

If I were you I'd search your local market for the best price and go from there, don't even look at anybody who wants more then 10$ a tube.

I agree that the ultra expensive greases are probably not worth the money, and that greasing the machine with the worst grease is better than keeping the best grease in the gun. However a quality grease is important. There are greases that are better than others for different applications. Not to sound like a commercial but when I was at a large trucking and construction company we did good testing and settled on Mystik and since 1991 I haved used it exclusively on my equipment with good results. I buy it by the case from the distributor for less than 3 dollars per tube. All the lube manufacturers agree that you should pick a grease and stay with it, because some are not compatible with others. BTW, the difference in red and green Mystik is that red can be used on high temp and high speed bearings like wheel bearings, but green pumps easier.

Use a good grade grease containing moly, and grease your machine per the manufacturers recommendations. You will undoubtedly find that there are some zerks that require more grease than others due to their purpose, like bucket pins for example. The boom base and swing pins and bearings will also take more care.

Don't over grease some zerks, just ads a big mess to little affect. You will find those points with experience on your unit.

Texaco Molylube products are very good, as are Mobil and Shell greases, and they don’t cost an arm and a leg.

I use Amalie Pro-Tac Plus or Amalie Elixer Super. Both really good grease and cheaper than the Cat stuff. Pro-Tac is a direct replacement of the Cat 5% Moly grease and Elixer is a replacemet for Cat's Semi-Syn .

not really a comment on the type of grease but i have one on how to grease. get a lincoln grease pump in at least the five gallon pail size. use it with an air compressor. it makes greasing easy and you can put a ton of grease in the places you really need like the bucket pins.

I settled on a moly grease for pins and bushings, because it tends to stay put and stay wet longer than normal EP chassis lubes.

3%-5% Moly (not for drivelines)
Extreme Pressure - "EP"

Swing ring gear (not bearing)- Texaco "Texclad II" very sticky molly $$$
