Hello everyone.
Has anyone seen or ever owned one of the hooklift trailers for pickups?
Open to all opinions. My idea is that if I had 3500- 5500 p/u with the trailer I could still use the truck for personal use and that you can usually pull more than you can carry?

I once owned a 5 axle hook lift truck... 50K hook... There were times I couldn't pickup the can AKA it was too heavy, not to mention even if I could pick it up I would have over loaded the truck. So on a trailer version I would want to know what are your plans for the load as in whats going to be inside? How many cans are you thinking? which brand? on hard ground or in yards and job sites? Link to a manufacture?

Hook lift are directly attached to the truck. It's combition with the trailer will not be good and you also will not be comfortable with your trucks performance.

Rolloff Trailer Roll Off Dump

In California it cost approx $35.00 to register a trailer for 5yrs. A newer style rolloff truck costs approx $3000.00-$4500.00 a year. Not to mention insurance costs & etc. Plus the EPA wants to upgrade the smog add ons on the older trucks. That is why the rolloff trailers could pay for itself compared to the $$$ the DMV collects for trucks every year. It add up. Rolloff trailers have Honda 13hp electric start engines to run the hydraulics. Hydraulic reeving winch systems with 5/8" winch cable. (Sure beats the electric winches). Electric winches will keep squashing the cable when it overlaps & goes around a winch drum, plus the cable will have a memory or a spiral when pulling the cable to hook up to a box. Hydraulic hoist cylinders are facing forward for more lifting power verses using a scissor lift or facing the cylinders backwards toward the middle of thr frame. (What happens is you are bending or bowing the frame before the lifting starts). 16ft rolloff trailers can haul 12ft-14ft & 16ft long container beds, plus they go over the fenders. (Not tapered bins that fit between the fenders). Best part is that a rolloff trailer could pick up & haul all sorts of beds. (One trailer, One registration).

I really like that trailer!! whats the most weight you can load on it? I realize the axles are 10 ton capacity but i'm curious about the loading weight that you can pick up.

Rolloff trailers are a handjob. One time in a hundred you get to pick up a box in an open parking lot. The other 99 are places most drivers couldn't get a trailer in to let alone load a box after you get there. You have no idea how heavy a dumpster is or if it's loaded evenly when you don't see it loaded. It's also not a fair compare a 14k trailer with out a truck to a 70k truck when looking at license fees.

Hi. It depends on size size & weight of the box. Customer in Palm springs puts 10 tons payload in the box with no problem & pulls it with a 1 ton duramax. One time he had 13 tons. He showed me the weight slip. Crazy guy. He was making a boy do a mans job. A 3 axle rolloff truck can carry legal 10-12 tons & these guys are doing the same with these trailers. I would hate to pay the weight fine if they ever got caught. But with a 16ft x 4ft tall x 90" inside width with 12ga floor & sides, it averages 7 to 7-1/2 tons. You can also get 12k axles with 17.5 tire/wheel combo. ph:661 706 0291.:Banghead

Rolloff Trailer

Very nice! Do you have a website or somewhere to get specs.? Looked at some out of Texas but looks like you guys have a steeper dump angle.

I could email you. Call 661 706 0291.

I have been building in the industry for over 34yrs. You have to watch out on those electric or hydraulic winch rolloffs verses the reeving cylinder winch. The cable has to wrap around a small spool or core. Cable get squashed because of overlapping. Plus the cable will have a memory or spiral when you hook up to a box. Plus if you see the my hoist cylinders, the tops are facing forward for more leverage. If they are facing backwards or scissor lift style, you are bowing the frame first, before the box starts to raises up.

Yes I agree with you. But sometimes the streets are posted for no trucks. When the customers buy these trailers, they can't backup worth a darn. But after 2 weeks they come back to pick up another box, they back up to a box like a champ. Best part is that you can sneak into small driveways & under the eves of the houses to get into the back yards. Another thing is that the loaded boxes on the trailer are lower to the ground for travelling than a truck. I build rolloff trucks & rolloff trailers. But I guess there is pro's & cons if everything.

Guys might be putting 10-12 tons behind a pickup plus the weight of the box and the trailer. I would not want to be in front of him when he has to stop. I can haul 8.4 tons of payload legally and i full control on my 33,000 GVW hooklift. And I can haul 22 tons of payload legally and in full controlin on my 80,000 GVW roll off. Because i can pull a 75,000 lbs. load up my rails does not mean I can and would.J ust curious to see what an over loaded box acts like on one of those trailers. I have had the front end of my rolloff of the ground pulling overweight box. I wounder if an over weight box on a trailer will pull the back up the pickup off the ground.

And then it rolls away all by it self. Leaving the driver standing there with the remote control in his hand wondering how he's going to explain that one.

If the customer wants to pick up more than he should, he needs to put a rear hydraulic stabilizer jack with a roller to keep the front from going up. But some of these people want the best of both worlds. Making a boy to do a mans job. You better throw out the anchor for extra braking, if you are overloaded. But some people don't think.

Don't laugh. One of my customers did that down a guys driveway & jack knifed the trailer into the pickup. You need a rear stabilizer jack on a roller.
But still this people always want to pick up more. Then want to tow it with a small toyota pickup.
