Case 430 controls won't unlock

I just got a Case 430 in the yard a few weeks ago that has been working flawlessly for me. Went to move it yesterday and it starts up fine, but the (P) button to unlock the controls doesn't do anything.

Usually when I first sit in the machine (without turning the key) the control panel lights up, but this time it did not do that. With the machine running, me in the seat, and the lap bar down the lap bar light still flashes on the control panel, as if it thinks the lap bar is still up, or I am not in the seat.

I checked both the lap bar switch and the seat switch with an ohmmeter and they are operating correctly.

I checked the fuses in the fuse panel, and switched relays on the relay panel with no luck.

Any other ideas on where to look? Otherwise I will get the loader arms up in the air tomorrow and tilt the cab forward to start troubleshooting a little more.

Thanks for any help.

I will bet it is the console itself. I have replaced mine in both a 440 and 465 my 440 went at 1500 hours and my 465 at 1000.

My 465 did the very same thing. It started with it sticking every so often. After about a week of that I finally could not get it to unlock. Replaced console and all was better. The part was about $300. The dealer has to reprogram it for the correct hours with a code.

I was hoping that wasn't a possibility, but afraid that it could be. This machine has 1700 hours on it. If the control panels are known to fail that could definitely be it. I will do a little more poking around today on it, and post up what I find, or what it takes to fix it.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Try this, speed the engine up a few rpms and then push the botton. We have come across a couple of xt models that will only work if speed the engine up. The 430 has a simular wiring system. What it does is bring the brake oil pressure up witch tells the system that every thing is ok.

Speeding the engine up did not change anything.

I installed a new dash this morning, and it still did not fix the problem. It did resolve a grid heater issue I was having so at least it wasn't money down the drain. I am getting wiring diagrams this afternoon and tracing down the problem, which I believe to be in the power feed for the seat switch.

Turned out to be a broken wire. The 12V, constant hot wire going to the seat switch was broken. Outer insulation looked fine, inner wire was corroded. Replaced the wire and the machine works fine again. Thanks for the suggestions.

I love my Case(440S3) but hate the parking brake button with a passion, even more than the keyless start. I really miss my old 70XT where you just pull the lapbar down and go. I had a console go on the 05 440 I had.
