Terex MP60 boomlift. Controller problem

I've got this terex that goes crazy sometimes. At times when you step on the foot pedal it may move without any of the controls being moved. At times when moving the boom controller the boom may swing pretty hard. A mechanic went to look at it and said it would need a new control box. i was wondering if anyone might have seen this before and may have suggestions.

Welcome to the forum bahlborn. :usa

Really depends on what is installed on your machine. I was looking through online parts books, seems Simon/Terex used various controllers on that model, don't know what's on yours. Are you describing the boom lift and swing controls operated by the same joystick controller? And sometimes when you move it to boom up, it will swing as well without engaging swing control? When you step on pedal and it moves, is it just the swing that moves or other functions?

The controller box is a simcon control box.
part number 355 0101
Are you describing the boom lift and swing controls operated by the same joystick controller? YES.
sometimes when you move it to boom up, it will swing as well without engaging swing control? YES
When you step on pedal and it moves, is it just the swing that moves or other functions? OTHER FUNCTIONS AS WELL. THE MACHINE WILL MOVE FORWARD. WE WOULD SHUT IT DOWN THEN RESTART IT AND IT WILL BE OK.
WHENEVER YOU'D TRY TO OPERATE IT FROM THE GROUND CONTROL IT WILL WORK OK.

when you look at the underside of the controllers is there a red light that lights when you step on the pedal or is it lit before you step on the pedal? I HAVE NOT NOTICED ANY LIGHT
Does the controller look like this? IT DOES LOOK LIKE THE CONTROLS ON THE CATALOG. THE TEREX 03-718800 AND 03-718700. DO YOU THINK IT MAY THE ACTUAL CONTROLLER. AND NOT THE CIRCUIT BOARD? THAT IS WHAT THE MECHANIC TOLD ME IT WAS.

Well, from what your describing, sounds like you have problems other than joystick controller if you have other functions operating goofy. Don't know enough about your machine to venture a guess. Some terex machines use an OEM optimizer system that requires an electronic diagnostic box to check them and make adjustments. What serial number is your machine?

We had our terex tb110 do similar things. The main problem was the boom harness was cut and there were bare wires touching other wires. Ours has the OEM system on it and has the same controllers as yours but ours has lights on the bottom. The lights tell you if the controller is activated (if i remember right its been a few years ago) when you press the pedal and use a control. If the light for the lift/ swing control lights up when you press the pedal and not the control also...your controller is way out of adjustment. Its stroking that function without moving the controller because the adjustment is way out. For the life of me i cant remeber how to set that...i think there is a screw or something on the bottom by the lights. I guess if yours doesnt have lights than its an analog machine and then i would say take a really hard look at the wire harness or (just a guess) micro switches on the controllers if it has those.
I know thats not probably a whole lot of help, maybe just some food for thought!

Been looking over the parts book Barklee. Seems this unit used one of two choices of controllers for the boom/swing functions. Both choices were a four way type controller, meaning, for and aft for boom up/dwn, side to side for swing function. Similar to this unit here

http://www.pwmelectronics.com/products/details.asp?id=2848&catid=14&subcatid=134

These type controllers don't have adjustment pots on them, they require a remote mounted horsepower limiter board, that's where the adjustment pots are. Even so, with these type of controllers, in order for the swing to operate while operating the boom up/dwn function would require a severely messy controller. You would have to activate one of the roller micro switches of the swing function of the controller to power up the horsepower limiter board. Yes, could have a bad micro switch, could have a cam out of position, these causing the swing to operate when working boom up/dwn, but bahlborn stated it would move forward at times when he stepped on the footswitch as well. The drive is a different contoller altogether. Hmmm, that mucks things up. My best guess, without looking at the machine and it's components, problem with control cable from platform to lower control station. Wish I could tell you more bahlborn, but you have a strange problem happening, hard to troubleshoot on a forum. :)
