EGS, I just found this thread, great shots of the old iron shows. I've heard about Baraboo, never been there yet. Linda and I were visiting Shell at the right time in '04 and made it down to Edgerton for the Thresheree.
That pile driver has quite the history. I was impressed at the oak trees they were planting, upside down, around it. Sounds a lot like a diesel hammer without the soot.
inside the track drives on that Panama Canal shovel are universal joints that are pretty much identical to the tripot joints at the inner end of GM 4x4 front axles. Not a whole lot really "new" if you look back sometimes.
