No, the truck you are thinking of has a 63" flat top on it. Mine is only a 48".
Yes that was Durango, Co and I went down 550, or more over up and down 550.

Kenworth C500's and 100 ton trailers in Alaska.

These arent my trucks, but they are my pictures, LOL! A local contractor here in Juneau AK. Own 25 or so C500's, along with a bunch of other KW's.

Moving a D7E for the National Guard at Metlakatla AK.

They could have put 3 of them on this trailer. Once I saw him move a ZX330 Hitachi and a ZX450 Hitachi at once--both loaded crossways on a 10-mile move. They have a bunch of these 100 ton trailers- this one is 14' wide.
Up here we dont use pilot cars at all. Load and go, no scales anywhere.

I like that operator loading the D7! He's got more grapes than I do.

Contract Logger. I just figured out your location means Washington State and Alaska , correct?
I have a cousin who live in Sitka, she works as a state biologist.

Good thing the operator didn't grab a steering clutch lever.:D

I love the look of the C500 Kenworths. Closest thing to that I drove was a 79 Kenworth LW.
One picture shows two sets of chains and a steering chain on. I imagine that some of the roads are a little rough! I had to use a steering chain numerous times in the Northern Alberta oil patch.

Thanks for the pics.

Kenworth C500 in Alaska

I bought this truck a while back, love this old girl- only run her now and then.
Name on the door is previous owner's, not mine. Power is Cat 3408 all juiced up, Main Box is a Fuller 18 speed, Brownie is a 4 speed airshift. Rearends are 102,000 lb Clark Planetaries. She will move anything I hook her to. Trailer seen is a little 10-Wide 60-Ton General, but the trailer I usually use is a 14' wide 120-Ton Peerless from the logging days. Tractor is 10' 6" wide.

In Alaska the Troopers leave us alone- one of many reasons I stay up here. The pass me loaded and don't even notice me. No pilots, no permits, no hassles.
