First of all, if you are not going to haul asphalt (yes I know they make them for asphalt) and you are just going to haul fill dirt and small base rock, you can get by with a 1/4" thick, which is the cheapest. I really dont think, for the low end linners, there are much difference in brands (as long as they were made for what you are going to haul)
Im thinking you are talking about dump trucks.
I have installed many for myself and after the first one, its easy. I wouldnt go in details now. If you are going to install a linner in the cold wx, it will NOT be easy and probably break on you. You can install them just on the flat floor, ot you can let it roll up the sides, then you put a cap on top of it.

They are great to have and make hauling easier. DO NOT haul asphalt, in non asphalt linners, it will melt them
I have never heard about spray on for a dump truck
If you are talking about linners for a pickup, I would stick with the better brands like Rhino, those kits you buy for $40 are a waste of time
Good Luck, with whatever you are trying to do

well since your up north i would suggest getting the 1/2" liner since they'll last longer and more bang for your buck. and as for installation as long as u have a weed burner to heat it with there should be no problem we've always put our new liners in around the holidays since that's when we have time for it. it also depends on what kind of box you have whether it's steel or aluminum and what you want to give up on weight you can pretty much plan on about 1200 lbs on a aluminum dump. but they save your back in the winter when the loads want to freeze. the best liner we've found is from Triple R Supply out of michigan.

Drop-in and Spray-on Truck Bed Liners

There many different features that dump truck box liners have to offer, but they all fall into two general categories: drop-in and spray-on. There are pros and cons of each option, which should be examined and researched before a purchase is made. The type of liner a buyer ultimately chooses depends largely on the type of hauling that will take place with his or her dump truck.

Drop-in bed liners offer a high amount of protection to a dump truck’s bed, and are generally applied to industrial-grade dump trucks. The liners are often fairly thick and have rigid bodies to prevent dents in the bed of the dump truck. Also, they last a long time, are easy to install and remove, and are easy to clean. Some plastics manufacturers, like Horn Plastics Inc., produce a variety of dump truck bed liner styles, with each style offering different strengths. For example, UHMW (Ultra-High Molecular Weight) liners, contain silicon to make the surface slippery, allowing materials to be easily unloaded without sticking.

We have several guys that have liners, plus they use a lawn mower no stick spray...
the guy that uses the no stick spray seem to have the best luck... but he also gets out everytime to check or clean his bed.... I think he said he sprays the stuff once a week

I'd like to know more about the spray myself. Please tell.... Hauling some damp clay the other day & couldn't hardly get it out of the bed. Was thinking then about something non-stick would help.
