I have a 99 case 1845c that I just got. The owners manual is in Spanish so I am looking for one in English. Are there any problem areas that need attention with this machine? Whats the most commen failure?

The biggest issue I had was to be sure to keep the belly clean. The machine uses a pin lock system on the wheel hubs as brakes. There is a pully, cable and spring in the floor pan, operating that pin lock system. You want to keep it clean. If you park on a hill and put the lap bar down, the machine will roll a little until the pin finds a hole and then it will lock up stopping the machine. When you go to move again, get in the habit up backing up slightly to allow the pin to retract. This will make more sense when your in the machine. Driving through the pin lock will cause a trip to dealer or time in your shop.

The pin lock system was the only BS component on the machine I thought. Overall the 1800 series machines are excellent.

The brake lock can be especially bad in the winter as a build up of mud and snow will melt during the day working and then freeze up at night. Other machines seem to have the same problem.

With the exception of the brake lock, probably the toughest skid steer ever built. Loud and bouncy, but will run forever.

The 1845 was one of the best built Case skid steers. Have worked on Case for almost 20 years and these things are bullet proof. The park pins are the sore spot. KSSS summed it up pretty good. When on a grade remember the machine will tend to put pressure on the pins so after you put lap bar(s) down drive slightly up the grade to relieve pressure on the pins. Keep the belly pans clean too. Don't jam the controls from forward into reverse, operate it smoothly this will save wear on the chains. Do not get the tires loaded with calcium or foam this will really take a toll on the chains.

Oil leak on my 1845C

I took out the operator's seat on my 1845C just to see what was under there. What I found is oil on what I think you would call the floor pan. If you lean into the machine and look down at the floor pan, under the front pedal there is a cluster of hoses on the left front of the machine and I think that is where the leak is. Any suggestions of what I do? Aslo, where can I get a service manual? Thanks for all your help. This is my first post!!

case 1945c jumpy controls

I have a 1997 case 1845c and the right hand side drive controls are ver touchy and jerky compared to the left. It also creeps on the right side, someone told me that the spring on the shaft into the drive pump could have broke,I checked that, and it's fine. any sugestions? thanks

Thechap:I would wash out the area under the floor thoroughly. There are 4 hoses to the drive motors under there and possibly aux hydraulic hoses if equipped. There is also a chance that the oil is coming from between the drive motors and the chain case or coming from the park pins. Make sure the rubber boots are intact on the park pins.

MNCASE1845C: Your problem could be a bad shock absorber on the control cross shaft. If this shock loses it's tension the lever can be a little to easy to stroke, and it will not centre the controls. Best way to find your problem is get the machine up on blocks so all tires are off the ground. Now disconnect the linkages at the drive pumps. Start the machine put the lap bar(s) down to release brake pins and see if the wheels stay still. If the wheels are moving either forward or reverse then the spool on the pump is not centered. If the wheels stay still you know you have a linkage problem.

Good luck on finding a repair manual at a reasonable price.
Another common problem is the 4 gaskets to the 2 side chain boxes leaking and letting rain or snow in your chain oil making milky.
Othewise I'm impressed how much abuse ours has taken over the years with so little attention.
Just wish we had a heated cab this time of the year.

I have found some good deals on used part manuals for equipment on Ebay they can get pricey sometimes, but will be cheaper then going to the dealer for new ones .

We had a 1990-1992 somewhere in there. Only problem in 3000hrs of use was the linkage needing adjusted. Best investment we ever made. Bought it a year old and paid 10k for it sold it 4 years ago and got 10k for it.

The resale on these machines is probably the best in the industry.
