After fighting there way along the fimilar orange color tractors will no longer be built as of 2010 the parent company will eliminate them and put there resources into names like massey fergusen and challenger. A sad ending for thr giant company of Allis Chalmers sad . The giant that made heavy equipment and a proven line of farm machinery Thanks the BIG D

I guess that's the same feeling people had when Allis took over Rumely in 1931. an end of an era. When John Deere goes...scratch that...it ain't gonna happen!

Sad, but in reality they existed in name only after being bought out by Deutz.

All my dad's big tractors were AC.

All it will take for JD to go is for the same unions and management that GM had to ruin them.

Thats a nice looking 220 allis-chalmers pbean,I also see what looks to be a "wc" allis setting in the shed.It is sad to see these companys go to the wayside but its part of an economic cycle and times. They will never build them that away again.I can remember setting around the dinner table as a kid listening to my grandad, uncle's,& dad talk about how ford tractors would always be around due to they had ford motor company behind them, how the times have changed sence then.I think we will see alot of older companys get tested in the next few years, and I hope they can hold out.

Big al

this isnt related to agriculture . Allis Chalmers had a over the road truck engines back around 1970 it in the high hp. version had 450 hp. back when first introduced surpassed Cats 1673 and even the 1693ta at 425 hp. they where actually placed in trucks I dont know the engine specs. Interesting they also had a v12 industrial engine at 900 hp. the truck engine actually called Big All in there ads.

Whatever it takes
Changing times . . .

Seems like there's always been an Allis in some shape or form on this farm since before there was even an EdB. It wasn't Allis then, but dad had a Gleaner Baldwin combine that he bought new in 1941. After AC bought Baldwin, we had AC Gleaners and the AC D-21 tractor showed up on the farm in 1966. It is still here and gets a fair amount of use as the power for my big grain auger and grain vac. No field work anymore though. I went away from wheel tractors and got into Cat Challengers, but even that didn't work to wean me from what used to be AC, as a year after buying the Cat MT, they sold the ag division to AGCO and all of a sudden I had an AGCO tractor working my fields.
I heard it said once, that Allis Chalmers was the only company in the world that could supply everything needed to build a hydro-electric dam. All the way from dirt moving equipment to the water turbines, alternators, and transformers. Same went for nuke plants. Turn key operations from the ground up and they didn't have to go out of house for anything.

This coming year is the Allis Chalmers get together at the Austin Thresherman's Reunion in Austin, Manitoba. This is a pretty big deal with guys coming from all over North America with their Allis and Rumely equipment. The nearby city of Portage La Prairie currently has a museum dedicated to Allis Chalmers equipment. If you love Allis stuff this is a show worth coming to. I met a guy in Pennsylvania by accident who is headed up to it. He already owns over thirty Rumely's and wasn't going to miss this show.
