JCB 208s 1CX starter motor questions

I own a 1998 JCB 208s and I'm pretty sure the starter and solenoid have gone bad. I have been having more difficulty each time I have had to start the machine, until the other day when I smelt I slight burn coming from under the hood. Anyways, I checked my battery and it is fully charged and I am getting 12v at the ignition wire. When I jump across the two terminals on the solenoid, I get sparks but nothing runs, and when I check for voltage with one lead in the braided cable (coming off the positive on the solenoid) and one lead connected to negative, I do not get any reading when I try to start the machine.

First, am I correct in my assessment that the starter motor and solenoid are both bad (sorry, I'm pretty new to troubleshooting my own equipment)?

Second, if they need replaced, is there an easy way to get to them without removing the engine? It seems that the starter motor is blocked in there pretty good, and I can't find a relatively easy way. I don't think it is directly accessible from under the hood without first removing the exhaust manifold and exhaust components, but I'm not sure if that is the proper way to do it. Any advice here would be greatly appreciated.

And finally, can anyone confirm if a Perkins part number: 2873K405 is the right starter motor for a 208s with a serial number in the 752500 range?

Thanks.

Thanks for the responding, guys. I wasn't getting my email notifications to the thread subscription, so I didn't realize there were any posts, yet.

I have a local JCB dealer and serviceman getting a quote together for me on the repair, but I will try contacting the digger doctor uk, also.

Thanks again.

I am up in NW Indiana. I have a feeling I am going to have to have this serviced on site, because I can't figure out how to get the starter out of there. I'm worried about busting the bolts on the exhaust manifold if I have to remove it to get to the starter, and I can't get the loader arms up without starting the machine. So I am going to have to hire some outside help. If you have any serviceman out my way who can service on site, I would be more than happy to discuss further details over the phone. Let me know if you do. Thanks.
