Hello, Skidders!

I'm looking to get a skid-steer for personal home/farm use.

Deal on Thomas 1700 went south...

Currently looking at an '07 John Deere 317.

Anyone have any pros / cons?

Are the Deere's as good as Deere says they are?

I will use it for landscaping (on rolling-hill yard), and graveling drive-way, and snow removal, and horse-barn & farm tasks...

Thanks in advance!

317's are good all around machines. Plenty of snort for a smaller/mid-size machine. If rolling terrain is some of what you're dealing with, the Deere's are as stable as you'll find. Vertical lift is great for any pallet work you may encounter.

As far as parts, yeah, not always cheap, but in my experience none of the colors are known for cheap parts. Availability is the key, and my dealer has not let me down in that regard. If not on hand, I can usually have about anything next day.

For what you're planning to use it for, it would be more than capable. Should be able to handle a snow blower and an 8' to 9' snow bucket no problem.
