I need to put some sort of anti theft device on my skid. I was thinking of some sort of electrical switch on safety device. Just looking for ideas.

Things I have know being use on different machines: a safety switch that needs tension held a certain direction, an extra light switch or two that must be in certain position to work or switch hidden where not easy to see but easy to reach such as under sheet metal. No idea the size of your machine but have a friend who places one of the steel shipping container on the job site with 12 volt alarm system on it and packs his tractors in it.

I have seen guys use shipping containers as well. Might work for the skid. I went ahead and put a switch in the engine compartment. You have to know where you are looking to find it. It just kills the fuel, but I may add a master switch on the battery as well.

We have added a fuel shut off switch at a customers request only problem is everyone can get a Case key. Some guy trying to steal it with little know how ends up toasting the battery and maybe a starter trying to get it going. On an 1845C and many other machines we disable them by adding a ground cut out switch. You can buy these from Case as well as the weld on lock out plate. They use them on the dozers. You'll need to make a second cable for the negative terminal on the machine. You can put this switch anywhere you choose but put it somewhere you can just get a hand in. That way there is no way for them to cut the lock off with bolt cutters. Mount the switch then weld the lock tab on, if it's just within reach and in a tight area no way someone can cut the lock off. I have included a picture with part numbers. I'm sure this could also be purchased as an aftermarket part.

That thought had crossed my mind.

Your idea looks like a good one. I'll check and see what I can find at the dealer here, but so far my dealing with the local Case dealer has not been very impressive:(

gggraham, I do like the setup you show there. But, can they not just use a jumper cable and bypass it? Is not all anti theft devices design to stop the person who is not prepared or to hamper them enough to quit in a few minutes? I know some machines come with a battery disconnect system.

If it comes down to machine stolen or starter toasted... I prefer the toasted starter.
Not throwing off on the cost of that damage either. You also run the risk of them doing damage to it when they are unable to start it period. There is just no low cost fool proof system. It seems a fool can break or destroy what the best of minds design.

As to cutting locks off, have been told the battery cut off wheel tools is how they cut locks today and in tight spots.

Hi -- would anyone following this thread know where I can find a reasonably priced service manual for a Case 1845C? The ones I have found online are all up in the $150-250 range.. ouch!

I'm not actually responding to any request in this thread.. I'm a new member just doing my three required posts so I can start a new thread with my above request.. thanks!

First post here. I have Bobcat 863, if I want to make machine less stealable I remove all the control fuses. They are in two small covered sockets in engine compartment. I do not think this would stop a determined thief, but could slow them down or give up.

Shoprat, what series machine have you got? On a C-Series just stick something under the seat so it can't press down on the seat sensor and the drive will be locked. Not sure if the other bobcat series are the same but my guess would be that they are... My dad did this on his machine every night. One morning he calls me up all proud of himself, "Ey! Zey shtole 3 machines from ze jobsite, but zey diddn't shteal mine!" They tried to get his too but I guess gave up... They did however leave with 3 other machines... He'll probably hate me for giving away his secret but if it helps somebody here from getting their machine stolen then it's all worth it I think. Hopefully no wouldbe thieves are on here reading about all our little tricks and theft deterrent techniques...

Easy way is put a switch in the signal wire for the starter solinoid mount it in the cab somewhere hidden and lock the engine bay door with a flat puck lock. Or a secondary ignition switch.

Bottom line is if they want it they will get it somehow. Just like thw other member said the generator was taken while they were using it! Gotta love people that work harder at stealing something han getting a job and buying it!!!

On the Bobcats I would wire a switch in series with the traction lock solenoid as well as a fuel cut off. If they got it started it would stall when they try to move it. DO that a few times and it runs out of fuel. The seat sensor can be bypassed on some machines by pushing the "push to operate" button but figuring out the traction lock is beyond the realm of many thieves.

Equipment security

Please take a look at technology that i have developed over the last three years, its a way to automatically secure all your equipment, just walk away and your equipment is automatically disabled
The SmartKii system is comprised of two parts: a receiver and wireless SmartKii. The receiver is easily and discreetly installed into any or all the machines in your fleet. Each key remains with the operator and is tiny enough to fit into your pocket.
As long as the key is in programmed range of the receiver, the machine will function normally. When the key is out of range, the machine will not start, or if already running, will shut down, or if you prefer Lock out the control functions.
The thief or unauthorized user will get nowhere… literally!

SmartKii Features
Glen 778-896-8541
Small and indistinguishable from other electronic components in the machine’s electronic system
Programmable from alarms to shut down or electronic lockout
Unlimited code combination’s, unlimited flexibility!
Programmable access range from 50’ to 400’
Programmable time delays per customer request
24 hour live tech support
