Hey Volvobl, I see you are from the UK, are Leylands and Seddon Atkinsons still still around? I love those trucks. I only get to see them when I visit Jamaica

I hated it when my grandfather put one of these machines in my hands to help in the garden. :Banghead Oh well, I guess it taught me the value of hard work.

First piece of "live machinery"? Hmm, construction forklift, just don't remember which one. The only one I remember was an old "skeleton frame" Lull with a Chrysler slant 6, that thing was a contraption of the oddest sort. :D

First machine I operated would have been a KATO 1220 excavator sitting on dad lap somewhere between 4 & 6 and the first I operated completely by myself was a CAT 375 ME at about 10.

I totally agree, my uncle had I think a 70's Leyland, I loved the way that thing sounded when it cranked up, the new daf's are ok but nothing like the early models.

1946 IH Farmall. It was a great tractor if you had set jobs. It would not do anything that it was not used to, or made for. Treat her right, she'll be good to you.

1st machine

Cat D8K, about 1984. I was employed as a pilot car driver, waiting for a truck driver to arrive. My only experence was putting a machine in gear to go back & forth. A foreman ask me to cut a V ditch. Had no idea what to do, but it was fun.

Looked just like this machine.
