Don' forget to watch out for other employees and most of all keep your eyes peeled for flashing blue lights.

Raiders use JCB to steal cash machine

CHARLIE TAYLOR
Gardaí are today investigating a robbery in which a mechanical digger was used to remove a cash machine from a bank in Co Kilkenny.

The incident took place at about 5.30am at a branch of Bank of Ireland in Graiguenamanagh.

Raiders used a JCB to drive into the bank in order to dislodge the ATM. A large section of the front of the bank was damaged during the incident.

The branch is directly opposite a Garda station (COP SHOP) but it was unmanned at the time of the raid.

A number of garda units from New Ross, Thomastown and Kilkenny city arrived shortly after the incident had taken place but the raiders had already made their getaway.

The area remains cordoned off at present while a detailed search takes place.

Gardaí have not said how much money was taken during the raid.

A similar robbery took place at Mother Hubbard's restaurant in Moyvalley, Co Kildare at about 2am last Sunday.

During the incident a significant amount of damage was caused when thieves removed a cash machine from the popular truck stop, using a digger that was located at the back of the restaurant.

Raiders have used a mechanical digger to remove an ATM from a Bank of Ireland branch in Co Kilkenny.

The robbery took place at around 5.30am when a JCB was driven directly into the front of the Bank of Ireland branch in Graiguenamanagh.

The branch is directly opposite Graiguenamanagh Garda Station, which was unoccupied at the time.

Gardaí say a substantial amount of money was taken and they are looking for two cars and a trailer which they believe were used as getaway vehicles.

Last Friday, thieves used a mechanical digger to steal an ATM from Mother Hubburd's restaurant near Moyvalley, Co Meath.

This happened where i live about '97. They used a log loader (knuckleboom). They were caught a few days later. I'm pretty sure they didn't even get any money. I don't remember if they couldn't get it open or the machine didn't have any in it. Is it not easier to go get a job to make money? You have to load and move equipment, tear down buildings, load the ATM, haul it to a secure place, and then figure out how to get it open without destroying the money. Maybe the pay is a LITTLE better (if you succeed). Some people work too hard to not work.

As previously posted, nowhere is far from anywhere in Eireann but in linear terms about 70-80 miles

But why would you have a quarter million dollars in Mother Hubbards Restaurant Cupboard?
:beatsme

Don't know.
Just converting the information given in the thread.

$171,000 euros = $241,110 us dollars - at the exchange rate the other day, when I posted that.

It is a truck stop that runs 24 hours a day, and they probably didn't want to service the machine every week.

That's still $1400 and change per hour for seven days or 17 euros per minute for seven days

Is that a normal amount to be kept in ATM's?

Well, since you are asking, you will see that I said I speculated that they did NOT want to do service once a week.
Maybe once a month.

Once a month brings us down to $334.87 average an hour usage/withdraw - certainly within reason. Have you seen how much an average over-the-road trucker EATS??:D

Well thanks for clearing that up for me guy's
Ireland is over populated with obese truck drivers paying way too much for their lunch so all the cash from the government stimulus is invested in long term ATM depository and a pandemic of rouge backhoe drivers cruising the streets making unexpected withdrawals is getting the Cop's knickers all wadded up.
Got it :drinkup

Shall we rearrange a few things ,
Ireland is over populated with obese politicians paid way to much for their services,so all the cash from the previous government stimulus is invested ( NOT IN ANGLO IRISH BANK)in long term ATM depository and a pandemic of rogue government ministers cruising the streets making unorthodox withdrawals to shore up the deficit of the lost Celtic tiger while ensuring the peelers are at home .This may be happen in the dream time but I think it was a miss print and the cash was 17 ish grand and as for the people not phoning the peeler's as a track hoe walked up the road at 05 30am and knocked in the end wall well that just begs belief

We had a serious spate of these unauthorised nightime withdrawls across the local counties a few years back, and while you kinda have to admire the shear gaul of the operatives ( not operators ) the damage was horrendous, (even the demo guys were embarressed ) it did come to an end when a few people who where known to the police were invited to take a holiday at the authorites expense.

Be sure that if they have hit once or twice and got away with it any village or small town is fair game for a plant visit.

If I was a cop there, I would probably pick an ATM spot right between the previous 2.
Then I would park something like a Hyundai shovel there (because it will take 3 times as long as a Cat or Kom) and just wait.
Maybe they would take the bait.

Here in Oz recently the preffered method of withdrawal was to take your gas bottles :cool2 with you, oxy acetelene or lpg and fill the ATM up with gas, have some sort of remote ignition source , stand back, fire and then pick your money up off the footpath, no PIN required. Very noisy I imagine and again very rough on the buildings and pedesterians, must be why they did it while no one was around, safety first:thumbsup
