Gang leaves hole in the wall after using JCB(Kato) to raid ATM

The JCB used by the gang to steal an ATM machine

THIEVES who used a digger to steal a cash machine from a popular truck stop literally left a hole in the wall yesterday.

The gang used a JCB(kato), which was on a nearby building site, to rip the ATM from the side of the building at Mother Hubbards in Moyvalley, Co Kildare, on the N4.

They transferred the bank machine into a getaway vehicle before making their escape with €171,000 some time after 2am. The JCB was left at the scene.

Shocked staff arrived at the busy premises yesterday morning to discover the gaping hole in the side of the restaurant.

But it was business as usual at the rest stop as diners tucked into lunch despite a massive hole in the corner of the restaurant.

Bemused customers watched as gardai carried out a forensic examination of the scene.

Gardai said the gang used the mechanical digger to smash their way through the restaurant roof and as the wall collapsed, the raiders scooped up the "hole in the wall" machine into the JCB(Kato) bucket, loaded it into their getaway vehicle and then made off -- without awakening a truck driver, who had been asleep in his parked cab.

Staff pointed out that whoever drove the digger had previous experience of using the machine. This appeared in the paper last Saturday.

wow, you'd think a man that could run a hoe that good would just get a job as an operator and not have to tear a building down to get a few grand and jail time

A few grand?
That equals $241,110.00 in US dollar.
That's almost a quarter million dollars.

Take a few hours on the hoe to make that.;)

Something similar happened back in the 90's when I was working south of Pittsburg PA in Butler. Couple of crooks first stole a dump truck and a rubber tire loader from the county garage, then drove to one of those ATMs that sit by itself in a parking lot. An elderly woman across the street was awaken by the noise, came out on her porch and watched the guy back up then drive forward with the loader pounding the ATM. Kept pounding until the whole thing came off its mooring. Scooped it up, thumped it in the dump, and away they went. They weren't there more than a couple of minutes. The truck was found abandoned. When I was finished with the job to come home, I still hadn't heard anything about the ATM.

heard of one of those on the news int he last couple of months where a loader of some kind was used, I'm thinking a skid loader. The theives made a clean get away, and in the process of trying to get the money out they tried dumping the atm down an embankment and somehow upended the loader trapping the operator... and had to call 911...

After you get the keys and 'borrow' an excavator HEO, dont forget the important stuff:

1. Dont dig up the ATM while working over the drive motors

2. Take care not to make bucket to cab contact
and
3. Be sure to take lots of pictures or video to post on HEF!

:cool2
