well im almost to my destination today i stopped and took a little side trip in Salt Lake City Utah, to the Kennecott Copper Mine. all i have to say is wow. one of the safety managers said that they were loading in 8 different places and that they had 100 haul trucks looked like Cat 789's and 793's. the mine is 2 1/4 of a mile wide and 3/4 of a mile deep. oh yea those are 793's coming out of the hole in the 4th pic and there are two 24H's in the last pic......

im still on the road but when i get some more time ill post more pics from my trip

wanna know more here is the link http://www.kennecott.com/

would be cool if they had aerial pics taken each year so you could see the progress over the years.

Like this? Remind me next year and I'll get another shot to compare:bouncegri

This is Mount Newman, one of the worlds biggest Iron Ore Mines. Its a bit over 3 miles long and tends not to be one big open cut as they carve around the side of mountains and valleys etc. They continually backfill and re-vegetate. Mount Tom Price is nearby and is actually bigger but its very spread out.

Here's good old Phelps Dodge Morenci - biggest producer in North America.....It's from 12 miles up, but it's the only way I could fit everything in.

I can even nearly point out my house on here!!
