Equipment pricing forecast 2023

Obviously everybody knows equipment costs have risen tremendously. I’m curious as to what people out in the world have heard or what the forecast for this year is? I’m interested in adding a 6 ton mini ex to my fleet as the work is there but it isn’t necessary that it happens this year (it’s more or less to keep another hired hand doing odd jobs here and there to fill in.) seems like the the bobcat e60 is what I would be interested in was almost 20k cheaper two years ago as was everything else. Has anybody heard/spoken to anybody about what things could potentially do this year or will new/used equipment prices begin to decline? I know things will never be the same and go back to pre Covid costs but anymore a 5% decrease adds up.

Just my opinion as I haven't talked to any of our salesmen but from the new inventory that is starting to fill up the dealers yards here I doubt we'll see huge price increases.

For example a year ago it was a 6-9 month wait for a next gen 325 excavator. Now my dealer has 2 sitting on their lot for the last couple of months. Now that doesn't mean anything - just my $.03 adjusted for massive inflation.

As inventory gets back to normal it has to help ease the supply - demand imbalance that has been a factor of the price escalations.

Car loan defaults are on the rise. Will equipment also follow this trend? I don't know. Car inventory is starting to fill up, more from a lack a being able to get loans as much as anything. Will this also apply to equipment? I also don't know. Right now everyone is saying car, house, or other if you need it and can afford the payments get it don't try to time the market.

I really doubt new prices will go down but I bet used prices will go down here it's still over 6 months for a lot of equipment but I suspect that is changing. If the auction is any indication nothing is going down and people are paying more than reta for some things

If the south west sees the housing correction I believe that is coming used equipment and used vehicles will be going down in price

Three axle tractors used are not bringing top dollar, if it's factory spec'ed with a drop axle those
are inflated.

Equipment prices will come down when the work drys up, and the fuel prices go back up, as well as regulations that force new electronic engines or battery's and electric motors, to be retrofitted into old antiquated machines.

Interesting enough my Cat salesman texted me first thing this morning saying he had a 325 available if I was interested.

Some things are showing up, some things are still out a year or more. As far as used go, auctions have been seeing declining numbers and static pricing or so their literature keeps saying. I know of a couple of guaranteed buyouts that lost a big chunk of cash.
Interest rates are the talking point around here. Lots of government construction projects but commercial is waiting on permits and trying to not have to let people go. My daughter is an architect and she told me they are still busy.

Right now the economy feels iffy and everything is just stuck.

I will agree with the above we seem to go in waves right now so busy we cant do what we were supposed to and then so slow the guys are on 3 day work weeks

As it goes no one has any up or down except track is 20 percent production of this time last year and shows no signs of picking up commercial on the other hand is busiest I have been when permits are released

How do your guys handle the 3 day weeks? Around here, a couple of paychecks like that and they'd be screaming they're broke and need to work.

Well it might be like here in the winter. We have many 2-3 day work weeks but not 2-3 day pay weeks...cost of doing business.

We find busy work always something that needs done a couple weeks ago I sent a guy over to clean up out front the neighbors office I dont mind paying for un billed time but I dont pay guys to sit at home even if its pushing a broom on the city street

Also it seems like somone always wants some time off when we get slow and I usually will shop up some bs work that is always a pain but keeps guys busy

I mean how many complain they are broke even if they are working 40-50 hours a week? To me it's plan ahead or tough luck.
Your thinking like your names on the door it's easy to save over time when you plan to so many guys especially here since we dont have a winter that shuts us down live pay check to pay check

Things are quiet in my sector in the UK for the last couple of months. In my opinion it’s to be expected and only recorrecting itself.I feel we’ve been over busy in the UK for the last 4 years. There are plenty of contractors telling everyone how busy they are right now on social media.Fair play to them and I wish them well.I’m very quiet, but don’t really go looking for much these days. The D9 has sat idle since November and is serviced and ready for sale or work. The D8 is doing just enough to keep it fresh and I’m happy with that.

As for prices,Cat gear never goes cheap here, only canaries and budgies do.
I’m seeing cancelled orders from manufacturers with immediate availability but higher than book prices.
My new car has arrived at the dealers 5 weeks ago after 19 months of being on order.I’ve been chasing them to send me the invoice so I can actually pay for it,but it’s only just arrived on Friday!
They don’t seem hard up at all,and customer is definitely not king to them.Same goes for Finnings.
