Gets bad enough cannot get much done wrestling with the mess. Quarry work was terrible as nothing got washed except when stormed or the operators drove thru the lakes that formed.
At least they had a mud room break area at St Charles where the mess of food and trash pretty well stayed.

At the same job i referred to earlier, the operators were told to clean the cabs in the trucks on a scheduled basis. I checked a few and they were quite clean. Problem solved-or so i thought. Periodically we would have a 2-way radio go on the fritz and i would pull it out and send it out for repair. I started to actually read the repair work-orders and they usually stated there was water damage. WTF? After some detective work, i actually caught an operator power washing the inside of the cab! The radios were usually mounted under the dash or behind the seat and would get a good wetting along with everything else under the dash:eek:. Time to get mad again:rolleyes:. I could chew them out and call them idiots because i was union just like them although i was an unofficial shop supervisor and they couldn’t do anything about it other than bitch to their supervisors that i was mean and cranky:D

Ran across this problem last week and did the job today. This Sakai roller had all the hydraulics quit on it. I knew it was a pump drive problem but ended up not being what I was expecting.
Hub in plate.jpg

If the hub screw comes loose or the splines wear, the hub vibrates its way toward the flywheel and ends up disengaging both the pump splines and the drive plate splines. I was expecting the teeth on this plate to be gone..............was not the case.

A plastic pilot insert would have prevented this.....but there is nothing. I went ahead and installed the new drive plate, new hub and plate retaining bolts. I cleaned the shaft and new hub, installed Loctite on both, and squeezed that new clamp bolt as much as I dared. Hopefully it will stay there.

It seems that upper management looked at their equipment rental costs last year and decided to start their own leasing company. That is why the Komatsu and the new Deere excavator are in the yard. I was told there was more equipment coming for this new operation. I was also told that they are expecting me to be able to care for this stuff. Oh great............MORE WORK o_O

Hard NO. Tell them THEY need the software to set up a maintenance schedule, an administrative assistant to run it, and a tech to do the greasing, fluid and filter changes. That's how business is done, not paying a top mechanic to do that sort of work.

The company lease is a tax scam. It does allow for charging costs of the machines to individual jobs. I’m not going to proffer any advice to someone who has been making money on these people without any worry about come backs and such. If you are comfortable, carry on.
