I walked into the Komatsu dealer here yesterday to pick up some parts. The parts manager saw me and said "HNC is back. He's working over at XYZ Eq." This company is the one I have talked about before.......they buy strictly auction equipment sight unseen and then attempt to repair it to make a profit. I used to do a lot of work for them years ago, but I was too expensive because I refused to short cut stuff. This may be a good home for him as they pretty much patch repairs with duct tape and baling wire. On second thought, he didn't even do that much before. I hear from this company only a handful of times a year on something they can't figure out. I can't hardly wait until I hear from them again. What's the odds HNC has something so screwed up they call me here soon? Odds are pretty high in my mind. I should still be covered up by then so OH WELL:D

The new parts girl there at the Komatsu dealer told me he was rude to her for no reason and that he was a prick. LOL

I can't fathom why anyone would be rude to any vendors or whatnot. You need those people to be your friends, as favors are the only way some parts can get looked up any more. Also you will often find the same people working at one place today and move to another place tomorrow and you can't make enemies. Even if they are almost incompetent you have to bear with them because if too many more quit, you might have to call an 800 number for parts in the end, and you aren't getting any favors from them.

This reminds me of a guy in the parts department at the local Cummins store. He would answer the phone "Yea, what do ya want!?" I know many people did not like it when he answered the phone.

I found out all I had to do is reply "Hi! Chuck! it's Ken from General Crushed Stone, looking for some parts for the engine I'm working on today!" After that I could not ask for a better guy to help me with Cummins parts. As 98% of our Cummins were for off-road applications and 99% of the engines this dealer dealt with were over the road trucks stuff I was looking for could be a bit different from their normal stuff.

With Chuck if I needed gaskets for something all I needed to do is give him the casting numbers off anything that gasket sealed and he could figure out the part numbers and if they didn't have them on the shelf he would have them in a couple days. Other guys would try to tell you that it must not be a Cummins part, probably something the company that built the machine supplies!

Some parts people are pretty useless and rude themselves but nothing is worse than a customer coming in not knowing the proper name or even what part they need and expecting the parts person to be a mind reader and know exactly what they need. Then when the parts person can't figure it out they get slammed as not knowing what they're doing. Sometimes even the best parts person can't decipher what you need from a vague description and the customer is guessing what the problem is.

Does this drive anyone else crazy? It's got to be just me.......right?

You have to take all the clamps off to replace this hose, but you don't take the time to make sure the hose runs true with the others............then when you tighten the swivel fitting you don't hold the crimp nut and let the hose twist until the fitting is tight? I must be insane!!!!

I thought the parts guys at my local CaseIH ag dealership were pretty much incompetent until one time one of them said "come back here and see if you can tell what part you need." We looked through the drawings on the computer and the drawings were next to useless. You couldn't blow up the pictures enough for the amount of detail shown on the drawing because it became pixelated before you could see good detail, descriptions were poor, and it was very difficult to follow an area of the machine down to the detail level. Since that day I have a lot more respect for those parts guys.

Go to Kenworth!! To find Door Latch Parts, Look up Door click on that page, find latch secondary page click on that, go to latch for that page click on that, drive down to what they will illustrate as do NOT illustrate everything, try to derive what numbers go to what parts as naming is a new game for Illustrator buffoons. Sat with my parts rep as we could not find what was in my hand. and finally ended up calling Factory rep in parts, get that "Oh Yeah, We do not illustrate those pieces, you need Blah Blah whatever, how many you need, min order is Four". He bought the four and sold me one, logged that nonsense in his hidden gem sites notebook.

Go to Kenworth!!

The real problem is PacCar like everyone else has superseded the same part and updated X amount
of times the schematics weren't updated also. The tilt steering column came out in 83 for KW, that
same basic part/piece was updated no less than 6 times by 95 and has been updated another 7
since then. Anything under 12 years old is obsolete automatically with so many updates. The part
number has changed who knows how many times.

I went out on another customers mini ex this afternoon. This is the one that called me last week..........machine has been down for over a month. I called him to get directions to the machine then he proceeded to tell me he had bought 2 parts that had been changed out but neither corrected the problem..........engine will not start. He didn't know what was changed but was going to have his mechanic meet me there and explain what had been done so far. I get there and the cab is locked up with no key to get in. I decide to start looking around in the engine compartment for starters while I wait on his guy........
