It is different if there is no oil pressure and there should be some. That means something is broken. We are talking about a situation here when everything is working.
I had an argument on some other site about this and somebody pointed out a Cummins manual that actually does say to pre-fill them, I saw it with my own eyes.
Nevertheless I am still not pre-filling anything.
BTW, I think a HEUI engine will start with no oil pressure after a filter change just the same as it ever does. It carries its oil in the HEUI pump or some kind of reservoir I think. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.
This is a subject that is as universally polarizing as you can get. There is no in between. If you pre-fill, you are going to destroy the engine. If you don't, you are going to burn out the bearings in 1000 hours. SMH.
On a dd I would change one fuel filter and start, then change the other. They really don't like to prime
