We’ve made it as far as Tuscaloosa. It’s been smooth sailing so far. Put signs in the truck door that say “in transit, not for hire. Pulled into a weigh station today. Scaled out at 29k pounds and sent on my way. He must’ve been satisfied with the signs. With a little luck we’ll be at the new home tomorrow afternoon.

We’ll we made it here about 12:30 Friday afternoon. The only hiccup was a 3/8” coolant hose going to my egr cooler popped. I smelled the coolant and got off the highway and into an empty parking lot. Only lost a couple gallons of coolant. Very happy that I only had one minor problem. Spent the weekend getting settled. Had to go buy a fridge, couch, lawnmower, groceries, etc, etc. we brought the bare minimum of stuff and the moving truck should be here Friday. going to spend this week getting all my business stuff in order and hopefully meet some prospective customers. Thanks for all the well wishes!

How did you find prospective customers?

some from social media and some from joining the Texas logging council. Also my ex boss from when I lived in south Texas years ago now has a clay mine north of me. Once I get my liability insurance here I’ll get out in the road and stop at shops or any logging operations I see. We’ve had logging trucks going down my road and I can hear a Feller buncher saw from my backyard.
The girl at the bank this morning gave me the number of a friend of hers who does dirt work. I think with the current shortage of mechanics I’ll be busy in no time.

That might be premature. You know, we had a big snow and big freeze throughout Texas, the winter before last.
Jeff
We were here for it. We came down to start looking around and visited with friends in San Antonio. The night before we left it snowed 2” and we were stuck in the hotel for 5 more days waiting to get out. We found a target that was open and stocked up on anything we could cook in our rooms microwave. And beer. Lots and lots of beer.

WAIT!!!

2" INCHES OF SNOW...........and you were STUCK@ Le Hotel??? Said the guy from Maine................Not believing it..........no way!!!LOL

And I KNOW when you were a kid you were probably sporting a 2 wheel drive pickup (one wheel drive open dif), straight 6 w/ 3 on the tree and learned to rip that puppy with almost bald tires through 6" of snow uphill w/ switch backs!! LOL (Why yes!! I did have a 3 on the tree........thank you for asking!!)
I also have the distinct pleasure of having gone skiing on I95 for quite a few miles during a few snow storms!!LOL Snow banks make the best jumps..........alcohol numbs the pain after a fall.

I don't think you were really stuck.................bet everybody VOLUNTOLD you the "Hey Mike!! We need more beer!! Mind running out for us since your the only one who knows how to drive in the snow??"LOL

Glad you made it safely!!! You got a barn at your new place?? Something to put your truck in or work out of?? Just curious..........

Nope. It’s a true story. We had a rental convertible Mustang and Texas doesn’t own my equipment to remove snow. People drove on it and packed it down, turning it into ice. Then on top of that they have massive power outages. Our hotel luckily had a generator. ( maybe they all do). So between icy roads and not knowing where or even if we could get gas or food on the road, we stayed put. And no I didn’t have an old 2wd pickup. I always had a 4wd Toyota With as big a tire as I could cram under it. I actually never drove a 3 on the tree until I was almost 40. I don’t have a shop big enough for the kenworth. I’ve got a 20x29 shop with a carport on the front and a 20’ overhang on the back.

You've got to know Texas drivers. Its far better to stay away from the roads. If the speedometer isn't on the topside of 80 the accelerator is floored. Conditions don't matter. I was in Texas the year of the big ice storm that almost cancelled the Super Bowel in Dallas. I think they generated a years work for all the body shops during the morning rush hour alone.
