Well it looks like a hurricane is going to hit my area tonight, major winds and rain, up to 10 inches of rain coming, roads and bridges will have major washouts if not completely washed away, my roads were in such good shape to, wind will be gusting to over 100mph so lots of tree's down and no power for days, how's that for a nice weekend, got everything tied down at home, grader all fueled up with push blade back on, going to be a busy week ahead at work.

Good luck! We get a lot of hurricanes here in west central FL. The news makes doom and gloom out of much of it but it is usually not as bad as they make it out to be.
Hope your right, last real bad one was in 2003, Hurricane Jaun, was just under a category 2 with alot of destruction, This Hurricane is going to be a category 3 when it makes land fall so they say, Hurricane Fiona, we are hauling in loads of gravel to stock pile at the shop for road repair a head of this fall storm.

This one is going full blown storm. Not a post tropical like we normally get. She's gonna hit you at high tide, so should be a great mess. We are not getting a lot of rain here, mostly wind, so I am hoping my big pine trees don't come down.

Not always the the wind category that makes a hurricane destructive, there is storm surge which a cat 3 hit us with a cat 5 storm surge "Ike" I lived through and then there is also which side of the hurricane you get, right side does most damage.

Well Fiona blew through, the roads here look like a war zone, power poles, trees, wires down everywhere, no power and no land line phones, looking like a week or more before power will be restored at the earliest, just got internet back, no damage at my homestead but others not so lucky, east of my location in Cape Breton was hit really hard with lots of homes and business damage from fallen trees and strong winds, farther East in NFLD homes in some communities where swept out to sea from high wind and waves and storm surge, no wash outs reported in any of my roads yet, we did not get the rain they were calling for in this area, maybe 4" at most, lots of work ahead cleaning up, been pushing trees off the road with my grader sense yesterday.

We got nothing here. Some strong gusts, a few tent garages, and trampolines junked. Power blinked off and on a few times. Some damage along the coast, but nothing like Cape Breton, and Newfoundland.

Glad that you escaped the worst of it. Looks just as bad, maybe worse as the black Friday tornado that went through part of Edmonton in 1987. Sometimes no matter what you do you can't really predict how destructive mother nature can be.

I’ve spent the past 4 days getting ready..
Generator prep’d and ready to go..
just gotta pull it from the shop onto the back porch..& turn the key..
Gas cans filled & anything that can fly has been taken down..
Got the bath tubs full of water to flush the toilets and cases of bottled water stacked up in the kitchen..& enough food to feed an army..
Good luck everyone in the path.!!

My namesake pretty much missed my area of FL. We aren't even getting much rain here. 3 hrs south of me in Ft. Meyers is a different story.

One thing I have noticed. When the event has passed, storm, or fire in our case, it sure gets lonely in the deserted area. No wife, kids, neighbors, or cars on the street and maybe little communications.
