Mike,
Good for you!!! Sorry to hear your leaving Maine. I bet your customers are gonna be alot sadder when you tell them. I'd say drag some 40-60kw gensets down with you. Keep one for yourself and sell of the others. From what I've read about the Texas electric grid, it doesn't sound like its in good shape.
Ya know............I was going offer for you to borrow my track press, but since your bailing out now............well!!!LOL

DMiller.............the humidity is STUPID here too!! Was thinking the same thing just now when I was messing with the truck. Air so think you can cut it............and this is after T storms!! T shirt just STUCK to your skin, sweat dripping all over the glasses.........and that's just standing still!! The poor dog has her tongue dragging on the ground while she's walking around with a black fur coat on that she can't take off!!

The added benefit is the humidity matches the temps as well!:D
I’m not looking forward to the humidity. Hope to land there by late fall, early winter so I can acclimate to the summers again. It took me a while to get used to the heat last time we were here. I just have to remember to move slow, drink plenty of water, and use my umbrella and fan as much as possible.

You can still loan me the track press, it’ll just be harder to return!

I was born here and spent most of my life here. I used to love winter but about 3 years ago my body just said “nope. No more.” My wife doesn’t like the cold either. So a couple years ago we started looking around for an area that fit our needs and wants. We narrowed it down to east Texas and started looking at homes. Now here we are. Something that seemed to take forever is now rolling like a freight train. It’s gonna be an interesting few months

Your moving South and my wife and I keep kicking around moving up to Maine when we end up being empty nesters. She was born and raised in the house we live in, her sister lives out behind us. Between our property and her sisters, we have 50 acres. My wife and I own 20+, which is really nice. NO NEIGHBORS close by..............and those we do we have, are awesome!! So when push comes to shove.............I really doubt she's going to want to move.LOL I'll just have to have my MAN CAMP put together my way up there.
Air thick w/ humidity this morning.............ick!! Today is going to be light duty day for me...........I decided. Going out to a couple of fire stations and just poke. I can't walk into a fire station without finding at least half a dozen things that need attention............meanwhile, they just drive em like they stole em. Ignorance is bliss.
And this just in................the AC in a 336 isn't cold enough. End of last week it was "It will be fine, don't worry about it." The machine is an hour away now. Last week it was 20 minutes away.
Soooo...........if your going to be pairing down your tools to make the move easier...........well, keep me in mind please. Do you take 3rd party out of state checks???LOL

Well the house is going to happen. Inspection is good, financing is good, and we is good. My home will be on the market this week and we will head south once it sells. Spent the day trying to get ahead on anything the home inspector will find when we have a buyer. 2 trips to the dump, one trip to goodwill, and one trip to holmz depot today.

NICE JOB MIKE!!!
Best of luck with the move.
We finally got NICE COOL WEATHER instead of sweating it out!!! I think it was Weds night, AC's running in upstairs and down.........came out to light the grill and it was cooler and (what seemed) drier outside than it was inside. Ran inside, shut the AC's down, threw the windows open, turned the fans on!!! I was so HAPPY!! 66F as I type.............so nice!!!

That's great news Mike. Hope your home sells quickly. The worst 5 months of my life was owning two houses at the same time, but I'm a worrier.

Going to get all your stuff in a couple U haul's? I moved to missouri in a pair of the single axle trucks, but I think I'll leave in a small pine box, because nothing else will hold all my stuff. They can disburse it all here.

Mike when I sell a house I usually leave a couple big problems for the home inspector to find. It gets them all excited and they don't seem to look as hard for stupid stuff after that. If you don't leave something they keep looking until they find some thing. Good luck with the sale.

Don’t know exactly how we’re moving yet. One option is to rent a big u-haul truck and have my dad drive it and then fly him home. Option 2 is that a trucker buddy hauls it down in his 53’ reefer and then he finds a backhaul to Maine. Oarwhat that’s a pretty good idea. I’m just hoping he doesn’t find anything too expensive. I’m no bob vila! On a side note when I was a kid my dad worked construction and we moved a fair amount. I see your from buffalo and when I was 6-7 we lived on grand island for a year. Not too far away.

Sitting on my boat looking at Grand Island as we speak. Don't take everything the home inspector says as the truth. I proven them wrong many times. Just because a furnace is old doesn't mean it has a cracked heat exchanger. I've had two try that. Had a HVAC guy inspect them for a service call instead of replacement. Good luck with the sale.

This home inspector stuff always seemed a bit out of place to me. All that I've met came from places other than the building industries, there are no laws governing them in this state, there is no qualifying agency, no tests of product knowledge and no recourse when one of them is wrong about something that can cost the seller dearly. The contracts I've seen have hold harmless agreements that make suing them impossible. Yet every lending institution now requires one of these incompetents to pass judgement on the assets of another.

It's a worse situation than a residential appraiser who has to be licensed, cannot dodge liability, has to carry professional insurance and who is prohibited from hold harmless agreements. Go figure?

I was just on another thread about PVC conduit turning brown in the sun, the HI types were making stuff up about wires overheating and arcing, while some of the couplings on the same run of conduit looked good as new, but they just don't have the experience to know that sun might destroy PVC like that.
