Cool. I've been searching for manuals on ebay...the ones that come in 3-ring binder and appear to be have sat on a shelf in a big-iron repair shop somewhere. Sounds like we're on the same page. Thanks for those links- probably same ones I bookmarked  I'll review this weekend.

As I mentioned before the big caveat regarding manuals that have sat around in a shop somewhere is "are they complete.?" It's too easy for someone to remove a section from the ring binder to do a particular job then forget to put it back afterwards. It then gets lost and if you then buy the manual used and at a later date ever need that particular section you are up sh1t creek sans paddle.

Yep I should of said Service. To get started there's a booklet in the service manual binder. I thought the title was operations and Maintenance if your lucky I think I've seen $20 on a original. There's nothing on repair or parts. A Cat dealer could look up filters and such, there's not a big saving on filters from what I remember plus there's my trust issue.

Thats not an operations and Maintenance book.
Bob
That is correct. However if you go back a few posts to Page 1 you can see where I mentioned that there is no single O&M for this model. There is a Lubrication & Maintenance Guide and a separate Operation Manual. I listed both.
I would imagine that a Service Manual would only contain the former and not the latter.
Sorry, missed one. The O&M is actually two manuals. SEBU6510 covers Maintenance, SEBU5298 (below) covers Operation, should you decide you require one.

Thanks for the correction Nige. The Lubrication & Maintenance Guide is what I was thinking of.

Sorry LCA078 for causing the confusion.

All good info everyone. Helps clarify the different types of documentation. I’m one of those who believe the few bucks spent on a complete set of manuals actually adds value to the machine. Not just in longevity care and maintenance but also in resell value by giving the next buyer confidence in how the machine was maintained…if/when I go that route. At least I always appreciated when a seller has all documentation for a machine- whether it be big iron construction toy like this or a machine tool like a large lathe/mill or even old vehicles. Shows me there is some element of desire and intelligence to properly care for it.

The 'complete' service manual I purchased on ebay came in last week and I spent much of the weekend trying to read up on all the systems. I say 'complete' because it didn't come with an operator's manual but I'm sure I can figure out how to operate a 941B. Otherwise, I think it was well worth the money to purchase a genuine Cat service manual complete with greasy fingerprints of someone knowledgeable of yellow iron.
I wonder what are the odds those finger prints match someone on this forum :)

I'll start some other threads on the various things I found wrong it with since I've had it delivered to the ranch. I'll title all them as '941B: <<problem statement>>' so folks in the future can easily look them up too. I'm sure someone else will have similar problems down the road. All work on it will be done 'in the bush!'
