We have a 544K jd loader s/n 1dw544kzchf683777. Operator says it started runing bad and white smoke> our other mechanic looked at it and had codes for cam timing and pump timing. We only have a few mechanics so the larger jobs we have to give to dealer unfortunately . Hear is what they said seams odd to me so i wanted to get other peoples experiences. thanks for any input you might have.

thanks

Jason

Machine is currently tore down to the point of the root cause. Root cause two injectors were stuck wide open. This caused the engine to stop running. This engine has been over fueling for an extended period of time. This caused many of the components to become plugged. The inside of turbo passages and EGR cooler are filled with sludge. This will need to have the head removed to clean sludge contaminants and check for warpage and cracks. The EGR cooler replaced. Replace all 6 injectors. Estimated repairs $17,000. Mechanically no engine damage is apparent at this time. Please advise on how to proceed so we can get parts coming by the end of the day today.

From this statement...........what other choice is there? Does it seem high.....of course it does! Could it be done cheaper and with less work? Of course it can, if you request it.

If you are under 3000 hrs then you still had emissions warranty left. The injectors would have been covered as well as all the residual damage. Since you disassembled it you lost your chance.

Yes it does. Just was curios if anyone has had the sludge problem. Guys in the field did not see it smoking and was running fine, they fuled the machine and shortly after it started white smoke then it died and would restart. found it funny also that 2 injectors failed at the same time.

After refilling, they stirred up a bunch of sludge and water..
ALL the injectors were feeding off the same “teet” so to speak..
Therefore it’s not uncommon for 2 or more injectors to get stuck.

Time to change the filters on the fuel tank/fuel truck..

If it doesn't have a dpf, you could just replace the injectors and run it hard and see if it cleans out. If all it does is load off a stock pile you probably can't run it hard.
