Have actually bought a Devilbiss dekups system gun setup, previously painted with a old Sharps gun with siphon cup where was never schooled on paint guns with it having a 7 nozzle tip. The HVLP Devilbiss guns use far less air pressure as well deliver paints at a better delivery being gravity over siphon and the dekups liners making far less mess. Recommended by a local body man who is going to assist by mixing paints and reducing/hardening agents on a as need basis for existing weather and temps. He has the scales and bulk additives just has to order the paint codes. Said will use far less paint than in the old days. Quart to quart and half for Frame, is thinking not much more for entire cab and less than a quart of clear over color.

He said will get me a rattle can primer to cover repair spots that will be less likely to lift when cover with final paint. Eases more fears.

has been coaching me on paint gun pressures, patterns and how to deliver paint appropriately, he has a full shop with a booth but ot has been useless for close to a decade where booth painting is not nearly as required under HVLP system use now. Will see if can manage this.

Remember satin and flat colors hide the most imperfections :D You should paint it OD green, you know you miss those days in the service!

Drill Sgt asked me why I joined the service back in boot camp, I told him cause I like the color green, he went silent and dumbfounded after that answer.
I want to fix the rust and bad dents on my 1984 GMC 4x4 . I dont want to make a show rig out of it and i would like to paint it with a flat blue but i have ask several paint supplyers and they dont know how to do flat colors.

Prep work in the big time consumer. The big cash outlay was the paint last time I got involved with paint. Paint and hardener last time I payed for it 15 years ago was $100 a quart. It will be interesting to hear what it is now.
Years ago every thing i owned had good paint and i helped paint several of my buddys rigs. The buddy that helped me and i helped him was a sanding nut witch is good but more than one time i throw all the sand paper in the wood stove and said i think its ready to paint.

As a sideline, in my teens I repaired auto bodies & painted. I did some body work I'm very proud of 45 years later, a few still around I did. I would figure $100. for all consumables including bondo, all chemicals & paint per car. Big vehicles a bit more. It has been 10 years since I did the whole cab on the C65. It cost well over $500. I'd expect $1000. now.

I hate sanding and filler work, I'm not patient enough or detail orientated enough to do a good job.

Counterweight truck got rustoleum white oil base. Runs about $36 a gallon right now at lowes.

It will probably be chalky white by next year, but I might tear something up on it by next year. Looks great, if you look at it from a long ways away, and you're squinting with the sun in your eyes.

My friends paint everything with the same synthetic enamel. Looks somewhat shiny first year. Out in the sun it becomes "flat red" in a year. It has become the company color.

It's a real learning curve going from siphon to gravity fed. At least for me. I don't paint that often but still really don't have a full grasp on using a gravity gun. It seems you have to go slower, thin the paint more and it's just weird for me. It's uses less paint and less of a mess for sure.

As I have gotten older, I've seen paint being a necessary evil at times. If you are out on the highways and you have to stop at a scale, I preferred to be in the clean and nicely painted truck with all the lights working. It's usually the crap wagons that get told to pull off and bring your paper in with you.

For off highway iron, my color choice always seemed to be faded yellow, black and rust.

My GMC isnt shinny by any means but i have been over it with a fine tooth comb. I need to take the driving part of the CDL and i dont know if i should just rent a truck or use mine. It dosent have AC and because of it being on LP the passenger side step works but is home made. I wish i would have known the place i did work had a Dot inspecter there i would have drove it there and had it inspected . I have used it with out my CDL but i dont want to drive it every were. I guess i could take some pictures of it by the test place and see what they say.

Actually posted pics on the wrong Posting but got to the Body Work Sh!t Today.

As to a secondary post, was this one:

Side note, Tomorrow will be a FUGLY Day. Been speaking with Marcie at SSA as to stopping my SSI payments for an additional Four Months where notified me CANNOT be done, can Pause benefit ONE TIME and have already done that based against last years excess payout, they cannot inordinately extend that. Next up sat and figured against last pay stub where I have but six weeks of Active Work before MUST Stop altogether for the Year or deal with Same Sh!t Different Day as did this year Next year.

So will be sitting down with the Boss tomorrow and explaining this AGAIN, should not be so bad for the company as everything has Slowed DRASTICALLY, they have full staff in End Dumps, and a Extra Driver in training currently that in essence could replace me easily. My Class A is still good thru 2023 where IF want to can go back after Jan 1 as to full time work, just may not.
My last Active Worker Day should be June 10th. Retired AGAIN.

Can only do it one time for up to 9 months, after that you either go back to work and pay SSA back everything you got or you stay on it. Then they wonder why so many are not going out and finding work

Boss and I had a nice chat on this, he fully understands why where could not see me having to pay to SSA Half what I earn just to be working. Asked IF I was considering coming back to work after January, would be glad to have me back as have been very positive for the company.
Not certain will even consider returning to a full time 'Job' after I leave this one, in speaking to my own insurance carrier it seems a stiff penalty is being pressed on commercial drivers over age 70 for accidents and certain limitations against payouts for those above 66. May just lock in on the KW as a entertainment mechanism where with fuel over $5/gal will be limited.

Countdown has commenced if only on my calendars, 3 four day weeks and a final five day after this weekend. Be at Junkyard's the weekend of 5/21(Taking Fri and Mon off), Memorial day the next weekend, done 6/10/22.

Several drivers I work around I do not believe could pass a Valid Physical, go to a quack Chiro in Warrenton MO, will catch up to them eventually. Mine are done by a department of Mercy Medical that I use for regular Doc as he cannot do them where Mercy set up the department just for CDLs, Pilots License and Marine or RR Physicals. Still, the Company Insurance will NOT cover any accident involving a 70+ year old.
