657 Fuel Usage

I have been lurking around these forums for a long time and Finally have a question to ask.

How much fuel does a 657 use in a day.

More specifically what would a group of say five or six 657s burn a day. In very sandy ground?

Thanks

Given the escalating fuel prices these days, its becoming more and more of a no-brainer to move away from these traditional twin engine scrapers, and go with a fleet of pull-pan scrapers pulled behind ADT's. Using 1 engine at 18GPH with the same material capacity, instead of the 26+GPH listed above will make a huge difference on the project profits.

No knowing what an ADT was. Looked it up and wondering why? You have extra tyres to wear out, you have more drive train parts to wear out. It has two points of bending to wear out. I am failing to see the general advantage.

Old motor scrapers have 4 tyres that bear the weight of the load and all follow in the same path, causing haul roads to pump out with bumps. The ADT/moxy truck & scraper combination spreads out the weight of the load, and the row of 4 tyres on the scraper bear the majority of the weight of the load and evenly compact the haul roads and fill zone area as an asset - not a liability. You can also use your existing moxy fleet drivers to easier become scraper operators, as they are familiar with the cab and operation of a truck, rather than a different rough-riding machine.

Pull pans work in clean material but they dont hold up in a lot of the conditions around here

There are a few outfits with pans but 5 times as many scrapers here cause they work in any condition

Pull pans are great when you have a lot of real estate to work with. They shine for wide area cuts and fills with no rocks. But the pulling units are not designed for that kind of use. Ag tractors, Quads, ADTs. 5000 hours and they are a basket case. 5K hours on a self propelled scraper, if properly maintained, is well broke in.
