Steering valve is killing me

Putting the rebuilt steering valve back in the 931B. What a PIA. I managed to get the hyd. lines hooked up. Bit of a pain because the 2 hoses go straight to the other valve and aren't to flexible being rather short. Then trying to get the mounting bolts in is even worse. I got 1 in easy and then got a 2nd one but it's really awkward to try and tighten because of linkages and other stuff in the way. The back bolt is a pain because a couple hyd. lines need to be pryed up to get the bolt in. I've done it before but it's a lot worse now. There's not much room between fuel tank and loader tower and you have to twist and contort your body while trying to reach under the seat down to the valve. I finally had to call it quits for the day. Everytime I moved I ached worse. I took a few breaks but would start aching again right away. I can barely move now. I almost got stuck under the machine retrieving a bolt and then almost got stuck up top. I thought I was going to seperate my shoulder trying to crawl under the Cat. I sure hope over time I can get where I don't ache so much. Damn stem cell transplant knocks you on your a$$. I want to be productive but it sucks when I have such difficulty doing fairly simple tasks. I was shaking and it seems like my heart (area) is vibrating sitting at home and I have difficulty moving. Will take at least a few days off to try and recover.

Dave, I don't think most of the population would consider that a fairly simple task for a guy recovering, Spud excepted. Enjoy looking at something else for awhile. Good luck.

Maybe I could remove the seat and have better access. I'd need help to do that. The other problem is the backhoe is on the machine. The valve is closer to the front of the seat and the brake rod gets in the way. The bolts turn in really easily and with a ratchet I couldn't get 1 bolt snug enough I didn"t have to hold the socket. The brake rod only let's the ratchet turn about 3 or 4 clicks. I was getting the bolt in and then I couldn't get it to ratchet. I think the ratchet is 72 tooth. I might be able to take the brake rod off at the back to have a little better access. I'll have to make a wedge to lift up the steel lines that go across the back off the valve so I can get the back bolt in. The mounting bolts also hold the ends of the valve together so have to be tight so it doesn't leak.
Today my knee's and hip joints are aching. My knee's were quite sore laying in bed this morning. They're much better now that I'm up sitting in a chair. I have to go pretty slow getting up to walk. Hopefully my mechanic friend will be able to help me finish installing the valve. I'll definately need help putting the belly pan back on. I want to fill the hyd. tank (had to replace main hyd. hose coming from pump as well) and make sure there are no leaks before putting the belly pan back on.
