I've got tracks pads back on, changed trans and engine oil and filters and seems to be working fine on my new to me 1965 Case - unknown # of hours.
And I have solved the areas mosquito problem with the 2 qt/ hour oil consumption. There is little blow-by coming from the crankcase ventilation hose. There is actual oil coming out the joint between the manifold and exhaust pipe. I first thought the valve guide seals were back. And now a line of oil only on the exhaust side where the head joins the block. Intake side is clean. Friend suggested the head gasket is bad allowing the intake stroke to pull oil past the gasket and into the cylinder. Engine starts wo much effort, seems to run well with maybe a slight knock. Oil pressure starts at 70 and drops to almost 0 when hot at idle. Suggested diagnosis for the oil consumption?

Motor is worn out , should be cheap and easy enough to fix without taking the motor out of the dozer . Rings and big end shells may be enough . You can check main bearings while under there doing the connecting rods . Of course the head gasket should be replaced when you go in there , don't throw anything away !!! I had a TD5 with an oil issue , near stalled after a run down hill using the engine for braking . It had a cylinder ridge thick as a finger nail needing to be removed . Rings and shells fixed that and the dozer still goes today under new ownership .

Thanks for the insight. Will add it to my schedule. How difficult is it to get the sleeves out?

Depends how tight they are in the bottom of the block. Over the course of 50 years there may be enough ‘mud’ settle out of the coolant that collects around the bottom of the water jacket that can make wet liners hard to break loose
