I'm a big know-nothing who is trying to learn but I also don't have a whole lot of patience or a ton of mechanical aptitude. That being said I still like reading about stuff I don't understand even if it's to see new words or more fully grasp the complexities of stuff. That being said I frequent a few different forums and have found apparently our very own @thepumpguysc is a pump repair master, even in other worlds beyond our own here on HEF. I don't remember where I was but I assume the ForestryForum as these are the two main forums I hang out in nowadays, but someone mentioned thepumpguysc there too. I know we have a few cross-over members between here and there but I never expected to recognize a HEF handle randomly not on HEF. They were speaking highly of his skills and I thought that was neat!

So, I'm calling it that we have some legendary type of folk here. Hopefully it's not embarrassing to be called out but I assume we have a bunch of people here who are infamous in their trades or abilities. I'm envious of the masters out there as I feel like I'm more of a (less than) jack of all (some) trades.

I also consider HEF a pretty great networking tool and I'm someone who likes to know who is helpful and in what realm. I'm going to call out a few people here but this is certainly not everyone just the ones who come to mind.

I hope this is an interesting topic and that others add who they think are legends as well. I'm also going to add a brief summary of the reason for being a legend, and it's not to demean or disregard the other things you legends do, just kind of the first things that come to mind. I'll add more as I think of more too, assuming you all don't hate the idea of this post.

Me? I'm a legend in the world of building commercial printers that everyone has likely seen the printing from but no one knows what they are. I'm not really a legend but I consider myself having a doctorate in how these things work, even though there is tons more to know.

@Steve Frazier Making the top site for Heavy Equipment!
@thepumpguysc I think is clearly the go to for fixing pumps
@Swetz Is a go to for instructions and seemingly finding parts
@Spud_Monkey Is the go to for getting things done on a bargain
@Vetech63 sounds like he can fix about anything
@DMiller I think D can rebuild a reactor and move about any material in a dump truck
@Tiny Can fix our buses
@treemuncher Can take down all the trees and can handle big terrifying equipment
@skyking1 and @farmerlund Can fly all over

These are the names that I can think of immediately after the long HEF hiatus, again, no disrespect to anyone I've missed so far. Also, I'm sure I'm missing tons of people in the sections I don't normally visit... I'm honored to "know" you all!

Got your own Legends?

I don't know how this is going to help you :)
The thing I find most remarkable are the tons of members who don't post very often, and then pop in with gems and nuggets of pure goodness that tell me they really know their stuff. There are literally too many to mention in that category.
In short, this place is deep in experience.
If name dropping is the goal, then look to nige on the big iron, and pay attention to who he nods to. There was another guy who clearly had the cat transmissions down and nige gave him the nod on some D8 or D9 transmission rebuild stuff.
See what I mean? the depth of knowledge here is astounding, only matched by the generosity.
There is that guy who tears stuff down to the component atoms and brings it back up. That is one baddazz thread there and the things he has forgotten, lt alone what he knows will fill a book.

Yeah, I agree skyking! There is an insane amount of knowledge here both noisy and quiet.

Maybe I have the wrong idea for calling out individuals. Really it boiled down to randomly seeing thepumpguysc elsewhere and he was spoken of very highly.

I'm amazed at, like you say, the generosity of helping, knowledge, and patience even for the complete newbs like me.

This place has been incredible and I'm very thankful to have found it.

Don't forget Truckshop and Tva both have help me enough times I owe them dinner at a minimum and Nige. It's quite something that a well put together internet forum can out do most any technical department.

This site has to have the greatest collection of knowledge of any site on the net.Too many absolute guru's to name them all. Crane operator is one that comes to my mind instantly and of course Tinkerer who is very knowledgeable but more importantly has been a godsend helping me deal with my health issues. Sadly we've also lost a few guru's that really knew their stuff like Bob/Ont.

Hey! I haven't been able to fix S^&T lately...........you may want to issue a correction!:D
I get something from everyone here, even the newbies. Hopefully, in some way, I give them something back in return. It may just be a quip or bs..........but that's something! I'd date ALL of you..........providing I went that way, which I DONT!:p Too many olds in here;)

LOADS of help and helpers on HEF, guys in the Outback working in conditions many here will NOT ever consider, in the UK where everything is EXPENSIVE to a fault, even Nige down South Lands, enjoying some time on the Isle of Man then off to parts Who Knows Where to erect MASTERFUL constructs of machinery. My knowledge is often Not So Good anymore, Dated TERRIBLY into Past Life where a significant number of those Dormant Brain cells every so often light up miraculously.

I think HEF has become the legend if you dig far enough you can get information on things given from people long past away. not to mention the industry experience that's been hard earned from bad days that's freely given out here and the legend will continue as long as people ate willing to come by and contribute

Though there some very special people here with a huge wealth of knowledge a very special bloke who can no longer contribute here is Scrub Puller. He at 17 years old went out into the Australian outback to clear scrub turning it into farmland for returned service men after WW2. When dozers broke down shifting to a workshop was not an option, it had to be repaired in the field. For those of you not familiar with those yarns they usually start with "Yair".

You guys are totally right that HEF is the Legend! Thanks for sharing your stories of all these great folks, it's very cool to hear how we've all helped/inspired/talked-off-ledges and been there for each other. Really neat.

I feel like a turd for not putting @Tinkerer on the first post, I think he may have been on of the first ones to share some knowledge with me!

Bumpsteer- I'll keep an eye out for you at FF too!

HEF has even made it into magazines with the amount of knowledge that is here. I believe it was the last issue of service truck magazine that they were highlighting the importance of forums like this in the equipment world. Thought it was great that they mentioned this site by name

I would like to thank truckshop for his contributions even if he is a grumpy old man. There have been a few problems i have noticed on trucks i drive that i never would have until it was too late thanks to knowledge he has posted. Helping keep people safe on the road every day.
