A lot of people around here just use a digger of some sort, backhoe, trencher or excavator.

Company I use to work for had a operator that could locate wires, pipes you name it
at the drop of a hat with a 225.

This is what we have -

https://pipehorn.com/product/800h-pipe-and-cable-locator/

Invented and made in Birmingham, AL. They have the original one in their office.

Think we paid around $1200 for it a few years ago but not 100% certain. It's easy to set up an use, the learning curve is not that bad. If there is a locating wire the accuracy is within a couple of inches on either side of the line.

Of course we call a locator here a "Pipe Horn" - image that.:D

Search 'radiodetection' on ebay. You can find a lot of used units to save some money.

We call that a physical locate lol

Entirely capable of doing it that way except its my cable. Only want to fix it.

Sounds like you probably want a locator and a fault finder if you have a faulted cable.

Do you know anyone who does directional drilling? A lot of those guys will have their own locators.
