Since I derailed this overload thread with cdl and farm tag junk, here’s my recent overload. Yes it was me and no I didn’t use this combo for transport to destination.82B86859-9E09-48AF-A426-C1AED146AB7C.jpeg978C39EF-B2EF-4865-B31F-CB9230BE5026.jpeg

Wow, reading all that makes me think that our system may not be so bad at all.
We do have a primary producer category, but all that provides is a discount on registration fees, under this category the vehicle can only be used for your primary production business.
Apart from the rego discount, everything else is identical to full commercial requirements, I need the same license categories, must abide by same weight, height, etc, etc,,,,
So I get one benefit, reduced rego and have one rule imposed, must not be used outside my business, pretty simple really.
Although it might be nice to have carte blanche to do what I want as it seems your rules allow.o_O
Same with licenses, I've had my truck license since I was probably 19ish, just turned 50, apart from paying too much money every 5yrs to renew it, nothing else required. I'm sure there is some upper age limit where doctors certificate is required (75 with car licence) but I don't know what that is for heavy vehicles.

I can't remember if there is a hearing test here, for the 2 exams i've got (it's every 5 years if you're under 65 or 70 can't remember) the only test my doctor does is eyes, other then that he's just chatting with me as he checks all the boxes off, granted he's been my doctor my whole life so he knows me a bit. For a job with railway a little over 10 years ago they just asked me my height and weight and measured my neck and said your obese we won't hire you unless your doctor signs off. He looked at the form at laughed and said "concrete work that you've been doing is 100x more physical then this". He didn't do any sort of exam he just signed it. So many of the physicals are ridiculous, judging with a chart by height and weight means nothing, anyone with a reasonable amount of muscle and built heavier will be seen as obese even if they aren't even close.

I wish my truck had the fuel economy of a Diesel. Even with the hitch to high i could hardly tell i was towing any thing. I need to work on my hitch set up so it will be at the right height for my pickup and this truck. I would like to build or buy a toy hauler so i could travel some day i would use this truck if i could aford its bad milage.
Yes, I retired my C65 in part because it got atrocious gas mileage. I used it when I needed to, not frivolously. "New" truck is a little more than twice the MPG. Still not good, but better. I had hoped it'd have much more power, but the Allison in it is a pig.

Seth, (my son) is going for an upgrade to his new CDL. Good friends have consented to him using an old Ford tandem truck with 10 speed transmission. He compares it as similar power to my 28000 LB gross truck. My engine is rated 250 HP, the truck he is using is more than twice the weight, rated 230 HP.

I was prescribed blood pressure medication once. Blood pressure wasn't high most of the time, but pre surgery for thyroid removal, they put me through a battery of tests, they discovered an enlarged aorta. Doctor wondered why "Your blood pressure is fine, but aorta suggests extreme spikes?" I asked: "Have you met Seth?"

That is all the State of Vermont needs. Each year I need to renew my medical card.

First CDL exam, I was ignorant. I called my doctor's office & scheduled it.
I walked into an exam room, he was in a snit! He is qualified to teach others how to administer the exam, but in VT NO EXCEPTIONS! He would have to take a course, (1 week) to be trained to give the exam. He had told the State where they could put it, but his credentials had not yet expired. I left that day with my medical card.

Since then, I go to a chain emergency medical place. They have 1 person certified for CDL physicals, but I've never seen him.

WWW.
Because of driver shortage the work force is becoming geriatric. There are more drivers now past 68 years old
then there has ever been. How many pass a physical is the fact examiners are brushing over most requirements
that were steadfast just 6 years ago. My company hires from the IOOF or so it seems. {he can wiggle his toes
so he's ok}.

Here’s how i move our 251 Ferguson :D Was hunting for an older 1 ton diesel cause we only move it occasionally but turns out I could buy this truck cheaper. Crazy.
I did the same thing with my Volvo WIA 64, only $5250 for it, hauls my water out here for us and any supplies I might want to pick up in town or cross country. Not can I haul it, it's do I want to haul it home. Won't go back to a 1 ton for hauling anymore especially with a loaded CDL to haul anything besides HAZMAT and snot noses. I got PJ trailer too but longer than yours at 40' and hitches right up to my fifth wheel, I even passed a CDL with it even though it has electric brakes on it.

Or a walker.
With the shortage it's going to be with a walker or in a diaper since they are pushing for 18-20 yr olds to drive with Tennessee the first to enact it. Maybe if they paid more and gave better hours of service might have better retention, not shortage of drivers, shortage of ones who will put up with the BS. I see them letting more green card holders in to drive.

So since I can wiggle my ears and my toes doe that mean I get to be part of management, if it helps I can wiggle my ears one at a time too :p

At $16k for a 500hp 430k mile truck, it made sense. That money would get a 300k mile 15+ year old 3/4 ton diesel around here. Turns tighter too :D

Is why I am wrenching on a 17 going on 18 year old Class 8. NOT spending $60/70/80k on a pickup and in no way buying a five year old worn slick ton truck that needs everything gone thru as has 150k miles of abuse for $25-45k as current markets are bearing.

Boss’s newest hire is 20 all endorsements Class A except Hazmat and Passenger graduated from training school at Linn MO year ago at 19 worked for a small company for a few months then covid layoff closure and started here. Good kid, only legal Intrastate as with the old Chauffeurs licenses, tries hard but is only one where need ten. Within three months will be six of us settling either back to or into retirement, I am looking no further than mid January if not sooner as the winter slow down progresses as won’t challenge the paychecks for those dependent of them being steady. Birthday in February and not figuring to be commercially driving beyond then.
