I know several people who tow their travel trailer with something similar. They are relatively cheap, especially for the miles you will put on it and they will haul the load safely. You can have two economical vehicles and have a third parked unless you need it. Insurance is cheaper, fuel overall is cheaper. A win -win package. Nope, it isn't crazy, kind of smart in my opinion.
I don't have a fifth wheel endorsement CDL. I wonder....motorhomes are exempt from CDL requirements, as are farmers, & firemen? Could I use one?

I don't know about other places, but here in Washington, people use similar to tow their travel trailer. some with a smaller vehicle up on the back of the truck ahead of the trailer. I know of two that do it and neither one have a CDL, According to them, it is because they are towing a personal use trailer.

I know a guy who has a sleeper equipped truck to tow his 42' toyhauler. He put a thetford porta-potty in the sleeper, a table and microwave and that somehow let him register even the truck as an RV. I don't know what the advantage was.

Here’s how i move our 251 Ferguson :D Was hunting for an older 1 ton diesel cause we only move it occasionally but turns out I could buy this truck cheaper. Crazy.
I wish my truck had the fuel economy of a Diesel. Even with the hitch to high i could hardly tell i was towing any thing. I need to work on my hitch set up so it will be at the right height for my pickup and this truck. I would like to build or buy a toy hauler so i could travel some day i would use this truck if i could aford its bad milage.

I know a guy with a pete 379, full sleeper - tandem, 3406 13 speed. It was registered as a RV in indiana, and he says no CDL needed because it s a RV.

Of course then he bought a single drop lowboy, and was hauling equipment and landscaping rocks all over with RV plates, no CDL, and no plate on the trailer, and I'm sure no insurance.

But- this is the same guy that pulled the air filters out of the truck because they were dirty and he couldn't afford new filters- and he thought it would run better without the filter restriction.

Last I heard, he had switched from RV plates to farm plates, because his dad owns a farm, and he thought he would have less problems with the farm plates instead of the RV plates. No thought of actually getting legal.

See that a Lot as to RV tags and dragging a Gooseneck with machines on it or farmers WELL out of the distance restrictions on F tags doing what they can get away with. Sad as should I try such crap would be in the Hoosgow FOREVER.

Is amazing how many people go to so much effort to avoid paying a few bucks. If people would just play the game according to the rules, everyone would gt along much better. When the cheaters get caught, they are always outraged that someone would enforce the laws on them, because they are special and "smarter" than anybody else. I too would get caught within the first 5 miles if I tried a trick like that. Fear does keep honest people honest as does sartorial appearance. I just don't look good in an orange jumpsuit and flip-flops.

There’s many loop holes and confusing information surrounding cdl and personal use vehicles, I say confusing cause the laws are really left to interpretation. If you hold a CDL…….there’s less to interpret ‍♂️

We run a farm tag cause we aren’t commercial hauling and they aren’t too expensive. If I get a small equipped trailer that could change though.

Are several Clay Haulers here that change Company names often as DOT cracks down on them. Never use or even have Tarps or Covers, roll will broken drums, tires flopping on rims, Slick if any tread at all on many, and WHO gets stopped, well of Course fleets as ours, No write ups, a few Warnings for 'Close to Exception Status' or some other crap. ONLY time have seen Portables out was for one of OUR trucks near to New Florence MO, then the guy they stop headed to Hannibal gets a pass, had the torn off mudflap in the cab 'was gonna get it reinstalled soon as could', his weight as per another driver was 3 ton Overload to license.

DOT can be a sad state of affairs.

I know a dental hygienist/nurse, when I met her she was a few years from school. State of Alaska helps people with their tuition if they commit to work in Alaska for a time.
Cop pulls her over at midnight on her way from a shift at the hospital. He makes some lame excuse why he pulled her over, snow obstructing her license plate light. She was a real beauty & knew very well why he stopped her. A pickup with no passenger door drives by, cop waves all friendly.
She was enraged! "He didn't even have a door!" Why aren't you arresting him?"
"Oh, he said, he doesn't have an inspection sticker." "In Alaska, inspections are optional. If you don't have one, you can't get insurance, and there are no defective equipment laws."

Different rules for different people.

I know two brothers own two farms 12 miles apart. They share equipment & shuttle back & forth. Nothing they own is registered, nothing insured. Tractors aren't required to be, but trucks are. They claim they've never had a ticket.

Different rules for different people.

One brother ran an unpermitted construction dump. He lives near the airport. After years of getting away with it, somebody spotted it from the air, reported him. He made the newspaper, there was a bit of a fuss, I think he paid a small fine.

Different rules for different people.

A very good friend's wife inherited a farm. They never actively farmed, but rented the farm out. They had a spring water business. The tanker truck was registered as Ag. One very early morning he was pulled over by a County Sherriff's deputy. The cop was beside himself with glee at the big truck bust he had. Dave pointed out the Agricultural plates. A long radio discussion ensued with the Deputy's boss. Ultimately, none of the violations were valid if Ag plates.

Most of it depends on the intelligence of the officer. It's pretty simple-you can't use a commercial vehicle/business
vehicle and have Ag plates. Ag plates are for farm use only. Farmer here got caught hauling grain out if a
elevator/flat house to port. Can't do that-can only haul from field to elevator, once grain is mixed with other grain
term {co-mingled from other farms} if hauled rig has to have commercial plates.

Now if lose or do not have a CDL in MO have to go thru one of the schools to get it.

Go thru the schooling and seems driving test is waived here.

There are government agencies will pay for you to go to school. I'm not sure the arrangement, a mill I sometimes work at has a classroom & space for practice. Often I see Saturday classes, & parking practice any time in daylight.

Other option is some employers are desperate for employees, they will hire you & train you. Cassella is the big company here, trash haulers & excavating. I believe their employees are fast tracked through the DMV.

Again, different rules for different people.

I'm on the edge with hearing, they want me to face the corner, a nurse with the softest voice in the world whispers to me from 8 feet away. I'm supposed to repeat her words. I get 3 out of five words correct. A friend of mine can't hear me shout from 5 feet away, but he gets his license & medical card renewed.

Driving test is administered by the instructor.

I think that is also true of high school students taking Driver Ed.

Seems are quacks everywhere giving physicals
Osteo, Chiro, several around us for five counties applied and paid their fee for license where sign off nearly anyone. My Doc cannot perform DOT physicals but his employer health care company has a division to do them and are diligent as to requirements as I get mine there, same hearing test as yours Willie.

My own boss can barely get into or out of trucks yet his physical is renewed without concern, another driver cannot hear me in a quiet room or on his phone on speaker but passed his hearing test.

Different results from different sources at different levels of quality.

Well, I can't pass a physical anymore, My neck is too big and according to that measurement, I don't sleep and I need a c-pap. Only issue there is I tried one for a week and never slept a wink. After the week, when I was napping throughout the day wife said dump the rig and forget driving. I guess I was getting a little too crabby for her. So now, I have the CDL, but with no health card.
