trying to remove the upper pivot pin! seems to be frozen. they go up or are they tapered and go down word. first time i have tried removing it the top has slop but seems to be frozen in the swing housing. used my portable power hydraulic and tried to push it out. thxs

There are too many different model Ford backhoes for anyone to help you without knowing exactly you have.
Notice that I said backhoes not tractors.
I am posting a Model 753 backhoe swing frame image. Is this what you have ?
Have you put a jack under the boom to take the strain off of the pins ?
I prefer an engine hoist. But they are useless when not on a hard surface like concrete.

that looks like it. ya i put a jack under it to take the pressure off. the 69 industrial ford 4500 looks like that.

It is unusual for a swing pin to be frozen (stuck). Especially when you can see excessive clearance in the upper part of it.
The sweet spot for the pressure to be off of the pin is quite small.
The backhoe hydraulics need to be manipulated to get the pin a stress free position.
I have found that extending the boom and dipper straight out is the easiest way to free up those pins.
Please don't be offended, but did take the keeper pin (bolt) out of the pin ?
#6 in the drawing.

yes i took the keeper pin out. and i can see movement in top! but that thing is frozen in the swing housing. solid. as tight as elephant in a VW.

Both pins stuck ? If not is is it the top or bottom one.
You will get some good advice when other members read this with complete information.
Stuck pins and how remove them has been discussed numerous times on the different forums here.
A forum search for stuck pins will reveal many options to deal with your pin.

porta is rated for 10 ton. its down now having a new rod made for the turn cylinder. got it sprayed and leave sit for a few days. just dont want to bust the bottom housing with to much force. put a hydro jack under the lower and then put porta power in between.

If you have welding tools and the skill to use them, fabricate a strong box shaped fixture that completely encircles the pin and its cradle so that you can set your port-a-power on top of the pin.
There will be no stress on the mount where it is attached to the frame.

Yes, down. If the top of the pin is badly worn it will easily slip thru the lower hole.
Be careful to not mushroom the pin from pounding on it. Put something on top of the pin if you are going to beat on it.
