Back at the "line horse," Weyerhaeuser at Snoqualmie had a similar truck, only on an old highway (1960) truck. It was only called the "bull gang truck. It didn't have an A frame. But, it did have a level wind used when picking up guylines or worn lines. We never used it when tightening up guylines, which happened every so often. I am curious, I know of only one other truck set up with a level wind. that truck I saw once down at Crown Z Deep River. How common was an A frame or a level wind?

More than likely the photo is somewhere on the Mt. St. Helens Tree Farm out of Longview. Hap did most of his climbing for Weyerhaeuser. In those days the tree had to have a minimum 40" top.
That is one ugly spruce. It must have taken two tanks of gas just to cut the limbs to the appropriate height. Guessing by the saw, it was in the mid 60s since before that small saw were pretty much nonexistent. At Snoqualmie, the climbers used hand saws and axes right up until the late 60s as the company would not buy small saws I watched one climber take the top out with a hand saw. Possibly the last tree topped at Snoqualmie.

Yes, across the other side of the inlet. At least it was 4 years ago...
Okay - it make sence - I was there this year nothing left - and no contractor trucks after the Paper Mill in Port Alice. Demolition of mill was going on - sad to see - and gravelroad around to the A-frame acoross the intet was in poor shape.

It is very sad, as my wife and I loved the feel of Port Alice. I believe the mill had already closed when we were there, and the effects being seen on the village. Very sad, for people who live there or might wish to. The A-frame looked like a well built piece of equipment.
